Could anyone let me know about there experiences with these particular vehicles, good bad or otherwise? I have read up about them, so I do not need to know specs and things like that. Just after experience living with, maintaining, owning and driving them.
I have found 2001 examples of both the Holden Zafira and Renault Scenic, at low prices that are appealing, just doing some more research first! Ford obviously do not have an entrant in this niche, so nothing to talk about in that regard! Thanks, all.

I have not found that model Toyota for the sort of money I am talking about ($5000 Max.)... I suppose that you are exactly right, they have been forgotten!
The main thing with the Zafira is the timing belt issues, does anyone know if this can be fixed???

Bear in mind that the mechanics are based on the Astra (one of the biggest selling small cars during that time), and engine was from Vectra - the engine I think was made in Port Melbourne at the Holden Engine plant. These things would make me think that parts availability would be better than a Renault. I read they are both decent cars, I would be steering towards vehicles which have good parts back-up and familiarity in that price range. Also what about a Falcon wagon with dicky seat in the boot? The zafira has timing chain and tensioner issues and the scenic has a dud gearbox. I would stay away from both. They might be cheap initially, but won't be so sweet if they stuff up.

Upon doing more research, I am relieved to find out the newer 2.2 engine has a chain and not a belt...
These are still having issues though are they???

As others have said, it is based on the astra, that alone would stop me going near it....

Zafira is the worse car ever, seriously stay away. Has horrible materials and if you have kids then it is impossible to keep clean because of the materials. Carpets hold every speck of dirt and hold on tight making vacuuming near impossible.
Theres a video on youtube on how it performed whilst being rear ended.

Well we had a Renault Scenic on our yard for almost a year. Just wouldnt sell. I worked on it a couple of times. Was like a poorly built spaceship. Wouldnt go near one personally. I dont really see the purpose of them either.

Better off with a Mitsubishi Nimbus I think. They arent inspiring but they are dependable and the 2.4l is a known quantity compared to the Euros.

Volvo V70 with two seats in the rear would be my choice. Nearly bought one but my AU Fairmont wagon won me over (I6).

A wagon with seats is appealing to me too, but there is no foot well with that design... Otherwise I would be getting an EL wagon like that, might still do that too! Just looking at options... Nimbus is a possibility too! My father in law actually has a Volvo 850, so have looked at those too, at least you get alittle foot room with those, but still not to good...

If it were between the Zafira and the Scenic choose the Holden. French cars can cost a lot to maintain and repair once they get some km and age under their timing belts.
