Hi, I'm a newbie on here seeking some advice. We've just had our Ford Escape XLT V6 2003 model serviced at Titan Ford Brookvale. During the service they replaced the brake booster, remounted the engine and did the usual service checks which cost us $1300. When we left the garage, the cruise control, which was working perfectly before, was no longer working. The garage are saying it is a coincidence and it is because the cruise control module failed and that these things just happen. It will cost us $1200 to fix!! We are not happy, we think it is something the garage did during the service which caused the cruise control to fail. Could replacing the brake booster impact the cruise control?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Yeah, we'll get a second opinion from another garage. I just think it is too hard to believe the "it's just a coincidence" line since the cruise control was working when we left the car at the garage. For it to come out broken makes me wonder if they caused it?? It's a difficult one to prove.

If the brake booster is near the cruise control unit there may be a possibility they have knocked the vacuum line off. I'm just throwing an idea out there I dont know how the Escape system is set up. Best to get someone else look at it.

ok serious warning for anyone considering getting their car serviced at Titan Ford Brookvale. They took our car back a second time to check the cruise control that wasn't working after they serviced the car. Twice they told us that the cruise control failing was a modular, electronic fault, purely coincidental, nothing they did and we would have to replace the part. After quoting us $1200 initially the service manager agreed to do it for $740 and said they could hold onto the car at the garage to do this. Well....thank god we picked it up because guess what the cruise control is now working again!!!!
Here is the lesson: They were going to sell us something we didn't end up needing, nearly putting us hundreds of dollars out of pocket. So don't believe the sharks when something goes wrong and they tell you they didn't do a thing during the service. What I find shocking is that they were going to replace something that didn't end up needing fixing (and we were so close to paying it!!). Whatever they tinkered with the 2nd time around did the job, unknowingly for them. |

Could it be that playing with the module actually fixed the error and that its bound to fail at some stage?

Could have been the brake light switch and cruise redundancy switch out of sync after the booster replacement.

Common story this, especially if you've been a member here for a while you will hear some real horror stories.
Pretty much the theme is don't get your car serviced by the dealer, find a reputable mechanic and develop a good relationship, they like the business and want you to come back, they don't have the overheads of a dealer.

Sorry jaydee was replying to Laminge on the earlier post, was a bit slow!
Yes, agree with you, we need to find ourselves a good mechnaic on the Northern Beaches, we won't be going back to Titan Ford again. |

one thing to remember... mechanics are`nt clairvoyant and these things do happen in coincedance at times, and you will find this happens at garages too at times.

I agree. The factory cruise control unit is right next to the brake booster. Ild be checking for obvious signs of a vacuum line or wire being knocked off.
