this is my first post, and I would like to ask if anyone has had problems with the shift lock solenoid on a HC mondeo 97, the problem was I couldn't move the shift lever from the P postion, on investigation I noticed that the solenoid was not moving enough to unlock the lever when I put my foot on the brake pedal. The local ford dealer is talking about a price of around $300 for a new solenoid. Would it work if I just removed it?

It should work it's a safety feature so that you cannot accelerate accidentally so you need to have your foot on the brake I think it's worth having

I did take it out, and the car runs OK, just got to remember that it can be taken out of P with the foot on the brake. I will put one back ASAP once I can source one, maybe from a wreakers yard.
