as the title suggests i need a job, ive just been made redundant, with 53 other people. The company was losing money and the only way they could see the other 2 sites surviving was to shut our newcastle plant down. i was in the packaging/manufacturing industry. im a 24 yo male. work hard, quick learner, dont mind long hours, as i use to work rotating shifts. wouldt mind a change of careers. at the moment i'll do anything, as i have bills to pay like everyone else, and i have a nice XR8 i want to keep. any help is appreciated. Wil

mate lol try W.A shutdown work. from what youve told us you have bils to pay and a car to keep.
minning industry is so big over here and u will be swallowd up by any big company on the mines. You will soon have no more bills to pay, only spending money....thats after youve got 2 blocks of land and a gt-p parked in the garage. a mate of mine is a boilermaker and his breing home 15g a month. When i was 18 i was on a mine site about 4 hours out of perth earning 1300 in hand a week (not fly in fly out, just doing 52 hr weeks.) theres so much opertunity over here and the pay is one of the highest and you dont even need to be qulified just bee a Trade assistant.

Any wineries around the place? Become a cellar hand. Good fun work, but generally is seasonal unless you can get a full time position.
Being seasonal work means that you can work a vintage here in Australia over summer and then go overseas and work a vintage somewhere else during their summer. California is a nice place to go. I've gone and done a vintage over there with my wife in 2003, and I'm a Computer Analyst/Programmer! The wife is a winemaker.

How about Bus Driving. . . . .
Newcastle has Newcastle Buses part of STA Sydney Buses (Government employment!). You obviously enjoy drving, get to go home each night after work,Its clean work, penalty rates for overtime and night shifts,Flexible hours, easy to learn, plenty of overtime. Definatly an industry thats screams for staff all the time and also one that is useful in any part of the world!
