Default come november....

apparently cops get trained and whatever in november....well im thinking of joining up anyone know how or where

i no so far it usually requires an open licence, must be at least 18, some criminal convictions dont matter (not that i have any), theres a few benefits, and more experience and qualifications means i can 'master' in a field such as criminology or something with computers..or just the cop that says hes cool but then ends up as an ar5ehole..hehe

anyways if anyone knows anything more let me know ohhh they also pay you to train which is good.. approx 40k a year or so not sure

firstly you have to apply to join the force. If you are accepted into that first part you then have to go through tests...

You need to be over 18, as clean as possible driving record, no criminal record and a certain level of education is preferred.

You need to be able to run a course in a certain time. Should have or will need to obtain your bronze medallion (from memory).

Any real information you might need though is available on their website.
www.police.qld.gov.au

Or speak to Tafe as they run courses to help people that want to join the force.

I completed the Diploma in Justice Administration last year. Some of that course is what they use for those who want to join the force.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Kerri

Let us know once you apply mate. By the way, you do not have to wait till November to apply.

I think from memory Qld Police Service actually do 2 intakes a year. But read up on the police website for info you need.

You may still need to do the intro course at Tafe, that is why I said contact them and ask.

I have no idea what the reserve test is all about, so it probably is good :

Good luck with it and keep us up to date.

FalconSR -

I recommend you have a look at the http://www.upholdtheright.com forums, it's a Victoria Police oriented site but there is a lot of information on there that will be valuable no matter which state you apply for.

You should be able to go to your local cop shop and ask to see or make an appointment to see a senior officer, if they're not too busy they probably be more than happy to sit down with you and have a chat about what joining the force and being a police officer involves.

Good luck with your application!

Richard

i went and saw the cops at the townsville cop shop and they gave me some (10 or so) sheets to read and some other info...
they also said with certain courses in uni they may give scholarships/cadetships bit like the army does so gonna read them now

also gotta get fitter..lol anyone know what it takes to get into the swat/bomb squad/dogs sort of area as that would be alot better than just a cop (no offense its probably where everyone starts)

also said i only drive fords so keep the holdens away... they just laughed and looked at me funny...so i left...lol

thanks for all the info and rayner22 time to move north hey?

http://www.upholdtheright.com << will register and ask some more info

thanks again
Richie

I'm pretty sure they aren't quite as tough on the fitness test and all that jazz to try and boost the levels in the force. there was a lack of applicants last year from what i was told, so it shouldn't be THAT difficult to get in. Good luck mate knock em dead (not literally, that will work against you).

I witnessed a fatal accident last year and ended up having to give a statement to the police, a sergeant came to my work and we sat in his car and i told him the events. Long story short we talked for quite some time and he told me i should apply, said i have a sharp wit and should try for forensics (i found this amusing) but i actually though about it and might apply this year too, need a change of direction. He said he'd put in a formal recommendation for me so i thought that was pretty cool. Some good things come out of bad.

Mate if you apply i'm sure you can achieve. You're young, (not that i'm very old) follow your dreams
