I know this has been done to death, but. I wonder if the Geelong made I6 motor will vanish forever? It's one of the world's best inline six's ever built, so why would Ford just dump it? There must be other country's that need a 190+kw engine, & a 270 turbo six for some Ford performance models somewhere??
My god this engine has been compared to the BMW six FFS !

It is one of the best 6 Cylinder engines in the world. Fact.
It is over. Fact.

Having owned both mentioned engines, and they both are brilliant, I wouldn't compare fords donk to BMW's brilliantly engineered I6!

In the last three years Ford has sold over 400,000 F150 Ecoboost V6 trucks
along with countless Taurus/MKS, Flex, MKT, Explorer V6 Ecoboost vehicles. The beauty of the V6 EB engine is that it fits North/South as well as East/West. |

I give 0 carefactors for the V6.
I might get an Orion (or is the 2014 model called something else) I6 engine to permanently mount to an engine stand for my pool room

The I6T will be the engine which will be missed the most. I plan to get a F6 in 2016 with manual gearbox. That one will be a keeper.

the inline 6 really has been the back bone for the falcon, V8's have come and gone but grandpa's axe in various stages of development has been there from start to finish.

What upgrades is the I6 actually getting? Just some fuel efficiency tweaks or..? Obviously Euro V is out.

Being somewhat new to this brilliant engine( GMH most of my driving life) has the l6 been put into anything other than cars, utes, vans etc over the years and not something like light trucks, that sort of thing?
As for the above comment about being built in the USA or it ain't worth jack? Even though they are mexican built but yank designed, every lifter rattling, piston slapping LS engine owner( myself included x4 of them) would have something to say about that! |

I think for any first world manufacturer to pick it up theres limited appeal. It still needs higher emissions certification, its not too practical in a passenger vehicle due to its size and the lack of love for large cars globally and its not too practical as a performance engine due to its underbore layout.
Somebody wanted to use them for airport tugs, if Ford let the tooling go they might get used for agriculture, generators, forklifts etc. Something to take advantage of the low end torque and smoothness. |

Running it straight off natural gas or bottled LPG (those big domestic bottles) for a generator or power station in a remote area would work well. Plus the engine and the management system has all the smarts to prevent overheating, plenty of torque for high load applications etc

No one will be looking for a heavy, long stroke, N/A six of 4 litres.
Small capacity and turbocharging is what it is about now. Even BMW wont have an N/A six soon. It was a great engine in its time, but the new age is here

Just keep the oil clean and coolant up and the I6 Ford engine will never die!

And that's one big reason I won't buy an imported Ford. IMO Ford USA have damaged their brand with this decision. If they at least allowed some access to their market they would at least be as good as GM is to GMH and could redeem themselves a bit. But we are nothing to the yanks. :(

An imported version of the Barra DOHC, is sold in the states for use as a stationary pump/generator engine.

Just wondering if the computer and wiring loom for that motor would make a barra conversion easier if it is programable that is. would be a spare part surely.

I understand the bore centres are the only thing common to the original US engine ?
