That has to be an insurers worst nightmare. The amount of big rigs out of control is just plain scary.

Lots of corpses there. Mainly really bad driving conditions, bad luck and insanity. Probably better some of the offending drivers have been removed from the gene pool.

Not sure what`s worse here , the people that made this video ?, the one`s that share it all over the webz , the one`s that watch it ? .

Either way, fatal accidents aren`t pretty. ( yes I`ve been in one and witnessed a few )

Holy crap...seen a few of those before.
Some awfully close calls in amongst them...there would have been some puckering bungholes sucking the seat covers up there in a few instances.

Although this stuff is never nice to watch it gives us all a big wake up call. So easy to perish on the roads and you don't even have to be at fault.

Can't say much about it without being banned.
Although weather affected many of those crashes, they were all caused by absolute stupidity. How can there be that many stupid people.
Knowing Russia the survivors would of got out with a baseball bat and attacked the other driver.

I watched it a couple of times...sitting at home sick so lots of time to kill.

Puzzling things were why some of the trucks went out of control...I mean, possibly in the icey conditions you could understand (but they were going waaaay too fast most of the time for snow), but sometimes there on clear dry roads they would suddenly just spear off across the road or drift across a few lanes. More issues I noticed were cars (and trucks) overtaking madly, swinging wildly all over the place instead of doing it smoothly...not to mention overtaking on icy roads...why the hell would you???

I would blame shoddily maintained trucks, bad tyres, and fermented potato extract for most of them...

Reminder to self: cross "driving holiday across Russia" as a possible future holiday destination...

Are half the people asleep or brain dead or only look 1 metre past their front bumper? A number of those, especially trucks, its seams like they dont even try to avoid accidents, they just drive straight into other vehicles for no reason.

Like 4:30 What the hell is wrong with that trucker. Asleep?
Or 6:25 "Oh accident ahead blocking part of road, oh well ill just drive around it at 60km/h on ice."

If I lived there, my personal car would be a B double. Need some weight to help out when you are eventually involved in a crash.

Russians consume an average of 18 litres of pure alcohol every year and more than a half a million people die of alcohol related causes in Russia every year, so this video should come as no suprise. Oh, those Russians...

These might shed some light on the causes and costs of road trauma in Russia.

http://go.worldbank.org/P4BEJK5ZB0

http://www.who.int/violence_injury_p.../en/index.html

Quote:
One-third of car crashes in Russia are caused by speeding vehicles. [...] Head-on collisions due to driving into oncoming lanes are a major cause of road crashes [...]. Drunk driving, which accounts for 10% of all road crashes in Russia, along with poor road conditions and bad traffic management, also contribute to road traffic injuries and deaths. The use of cell phones and texting devices while driving is another growing risk factor.

In spite of scaled up efforts by the Government and the significant improvement in road safety performance achieved since 2006, road conditions in Russia are still very dangerous vis-à-vis other developed countries. As President Medvedev emphasized in a national speech on August 6, 2009, poor road infrastructure, bad organization of road traffic, and insufficient regional and local efforts hinder further improvements. Exacerbating the situation are the absence of effective education programs for drivers, particularly young drivers, the weak performance of the traffic police, and the unsatisfactory condition of emergency medical services in some regions.

About 72% of all car crashes in Russia occur in urban areas. Data for 2008 show that the majority of traffic deaths are among car occupants (52%), followed by pedestrians (36%), motorcycle drivers and passengers (5%), truck and bus drivers and passengers (4%), and cyclists and others (4%). The high percentage of pedestrian deaths in Russia contrasts sharply with other European countries (in France and Germany, for example, pedestrian deaths account for only 12% of total road fatalities) and shows that Russia’s transport system is limited in its ability to cope with the increased road traffic and vulnerable road users.

The economic costs of motor vehicle crashes are severe [...] Estimates by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2005 indicated that the cost of road crashes in Russia absorbed 2.5% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), or about US$26 billion annually. Road traffic victims are seven times more likely to need hospitalization compared with victims of other types of trauma, and they account for 75% of all types of injuries and 60% of severe trauma cases. The provision of medical services for traffic injuries and other traumas in 2003 absorbed approximately 0.27% of Russia’s GDP or about US$1.2 billion.

They never learn, if they are pulled by the police, they often just bribe them and get away with it.
Therefore they continue to drive like halfwits.

There are hundreds of videos on youtube filmed on Russian roads. I remember seeing one were they were driving up to 220kmh through city streets.

I've been watching Russian car crash compilations for over a year now, one of my favorite youtube channels is CarCrash2012

Just that one account has over 110 videos of carcrash compilations, 98% of those being Russian drivers. I believe these videos (except for the gruesome ones) should be used on ads and in driver training seminars.

It makes you feel much better only having to put up with idiots taking off from lights slow, cutting you off or other pretty tiny, trivial driving errors.
