There is a grey one that usually sits just before one of the bridges on the old Geelong road into Melbourne as well.

Another weird one I saw, didnt think they existed, didnt get a photo :( was an unmarked sports bike. It was a sports bike, no police marking at all, just small LED's on the indicators and a little siren.

Why is it police vehicles can get away with illegal tints and all that to "blend in".

I have seen some police cars in Brisbane in my short stay there that would scrape if it ran over a small insect. How is it they can get away with these "unsafe" vehicles. After all, isn't that the reason we aren't allowed to have extremely low cars and mirror-like tint?

yup
we pulled up right next to it , it always sits around the corner form our place.
misses was driving (id had 3 or 4 beers) and we nipped down the deli
pulled up
could not even see inside the car to see if anyone was sitting inside (obviously was) thats how dark the tint was
i put the window down and asked what percentage that illegal tint was.
(misses was a car tinter for over a decade)
no movement from the car
and in fact i have not seen it for quite some time

I've seen that un marked police bike around. He wears a blue jacket with blue police emblem on the sleeve. Hard to see unless you are up close. My daughter is in child care in the same building as police command, so I see all kinds of things.

Tricky aren't they? Is that along Somerville road?

i think you will find that part of the reason dark tint is illegal is not only based on being able as a driver to see clearly but also for police when they approach a vehicle for a traffic stop they can see into the vehicle & respond as they need to..ie.. no suprises of a window winding down & a sawn off starring at them!

I'm trying to work out what part of the tint you feel is 'illegal'?

If you're talking about the glass on the side of the canopy, thats not relevant.
If you're talking about the rear glass of the canopy, thats also not relevant (plenty of vans/utes out there with no glass on the rear - how do they see out the back? Mirrors)
If you're talking about the door windows, you can see thru them. And you can actually see the fluro vest in the photo you've provided. The car has black trim, so it's logical that you wouldn't see much thru the window anyway.

Hire cars and Limos can have BLACK windows - and as far as I know the dark tint is only relevant to the front windows of a car (you'll see many european SUVs with two shades of tint - the rear being much darker). And so long as the windscreen isn't tinted (which it isn't) then I'm very confused about what you're upset about?

Most likely due to tint if its too dark affecting your vision at night.

My old EB had very dark tint and at night it was very hard to see out the side windows at roundabouts etc. if they weren't well lit.

Still remember those blokes that flogged the plates off a speed camera, put the plates on there car and sped past the camera a few times then put the plates back on the camera car and drove off. Stupid thing to do but I got a good long laugh out of it.

It's easy to mock but guess who's calling for their help next time you crash or there's an odd guy out the front of your house?
