I think you would find that there is lope holes that they could still get you for not locking your car at home.
Being that you can get done for drunking in charge of motor vehicle by simply having the keys in the car while you are near the car on your own property.

It is called idiocy, and not on the behalf of the citizenry but our legislature/police force.
Thugs should be in the wrong, not law abiding citizens. If I leave my keys in my car, however careless it may be, it should not be a crime. I have not stolen anything, I have been stolen FROM.

but when your car is stolen you will scream about it and wast police resources. it is illegal so people don't cause this wast of police time. might be simpler to make it legal to take a car if someone leaves the keys in it that would save police time and teach people to take their keys with them

Locking your doors is a voluntary preventative measure that the individual makes depending on the level of trust in the community. The same situation could be said of women wearing revealing clothes and rape. Should it be on the individual that doesn't instigate force to be charged? We're wrong in the head as a society.

You can't force people to be good by using the government. I think we've seen that with the hoon legislation.
