Default Tragedy with car into dam (Vic)

Heard on the news yesterday about the horrific account of the 3 innocent children drowning, unable to escape from the car after their father "apparently" lost control and catipulted into a 7 metre deep dam down Winchelsea way.
I was thinking.... How could a father ever get over the guilt & feeling of utter helplessness of not being able to save his children.
Front page of this mornings Sun would have brought tears to many's eyes I'd say! (as it did mine)

what we have to remember is that accidents happen. doesnt matter how strange it might seem that he just lost control, s**t happens. the poor bastard might have had a microsleep and thats all it took. its happend to me, luckily without anything bad happening though.

its pretty discusting how the papers go about reporting these events.

Yeh Charliewool I too was extremely upset after finding out about this tragedy. Being a father I just feel like that sort of grief would overwhelm me going through that.

What really killed me was the boys had their seat belts undone, but just couldnt get out. The 2 year old was in his car seat but one of his older brothers had unclipped the buckles - but the poor little guy couldnt get out in time.

It really saddens me deeply.

I hope those little boys can find some peace after such a horrific way to leave us.

There was a documentary a while on what to do if the car does become submerged. One of the things is to keep a window hammer accessable, coz if all the windows are closed and there power windows, then they won't open. With water all around the car the pressure will be too much to open the doors either.

Condolences to the parents and their families and to anyone else that shared their grief

It's an absolute tragedy. My father suffers from those sorts of coughing fits though so it's not entirely unplausible. It does need a trigger and my mother used to get up him when he used pepper because it would start it off. It was more like a sneeze than a cough though, and a number of times he would pass out as he was incapable of breathing during it.

We had a similar scenario occur here in NZ on the weekend at Lake Wakatipu (Queenstown), Mum & 3 kids in car, lost it on gravel road 40 metres from their own driveway, over the side into the lake. Mum & one child escape the other two perish in the car in 30 metres of water. Tragic.

I do feel for the waste of the 3 lives, the news reported that one son had manged to unbuckle the 2 year olds belt but none could get out. It is so sad.

I'm only going to say this once.

Those wishing to express their sympathy for this tragic event are free to do so in this thread.

Those wishing to speculate, criticise or in any other way pass comment will receive an immediate 24 hour ban.

The pack of jackals that make up the mainstream media will do more than enough speculating to keep even the most moribund entertained without this thread heading the same way.

The rest of your post didn't meet the requirements outlined in my post above and was thus edited out. If you have an issue with this then take it to PM.

Probably edited by a mod. Read what Russ wrote and learn.

It's so tragic, and it can happen to anyone. In fact, after the whole Susan Smith scenario (if you don't remember, she's the Yankee Chickee who confessed to killing her two boys by strapping them into their seats and pushing the car into a lake, because her bf didn't want to be involved with someone who had kids), I have nightmares about drowning in a car.

Off and on I end up thinking how I'd get us all out in that event, and don't want a car with power windows ever.

How awful for the family. Just horrifying.

the validity of one of the replies above by keeping a glass breaking hammer in the car same as ones on buses has merit and may ease your mind?

That would just give vandels more tools and could be used in 'road rage'.

Yes its far too hard, the option to drown being far more attractive then the effort to punch through glass.

And yes I've done it before. Ever been an Ex husband? Try doing it.
