If you're only concern is that longevity may be reduced by added boost, then that trend has been going on for plenty of years now. Each evolution seems to get better and better with power density. The thing that impresses me is that this little diesel is now all aluminum, by that I mean block and heads so it's also lost a ton of weight over the front axle, at least 50Kg less than the 2.2 diesel and near 100KG for the 3.2. All of that weight loss gives the Raptor superior handling like no other Ranger, save for maybe the 2.3 Ecoboost.. |

The coming Merc X 350 has 190kw 550NM the same engine in the MP350 is producing 620NM The X 350d Power will cost $78,990 before options and on-road costs. people will buy it and fit lift kits and the raptor sized wheels, and probably get up around the 100K mark!!

82k onroad, performance dual cab ute, lol the auto market has become a parody of itself
As for intended use however, this thing will be great, if you want to have anyone tune your car for the immense amount of oz that's neither city or outback - ie most wheatbelts and plains - Ford oz engineers are best. Eg. Outback ute, RTV.

If you want to drive on sealed roads and tow there's an xlt or wildtrack. Anyone who buys a raptor (ranger or f-150) for that purpose hasn't done their research.

Funny how an extra option to the line up now seems like its the only choice to buy.....mind you it's funny how people think a global car is designed for Australia only.

Lancelin agree, indeed it would be a very good vehicle for that entire hinterland to coast from there past Geraldton. Lots of beach work when not at work in the paddocks.

Whilst the Raptor isn't really up my alley, I can certainly respect those that do purchase one.
The Raptor is a brand image builder. A product that people will buy because they want one, not need one. The exact same reason people were attracted to FPV's, GT's and XR for generations. I would assume that most Raptors will never see a rough enough road to challenge its purpose designed suspension. Just like many high performance Falcons that have never seen a racetrack to exploit their impressive power. Just trying to provide a bit of a different perspective.

Add to that, that the 2.0 is probably heaps lighter than the 3.2 is. All alloy 2 litre 4 cylinder vs cast iron block 3.2 5 cylinder. 50-100kg? |

Yes it might do. It has 10 gears not 3 and 2 turbos and it still can’t keep up to a Xb gt. You think after 45 years they would do something a little more. A joke really when you think about it. That’s why I spent my money on a sprint

Cars are a lot heavier now because of safety requirements, Your Sprint will be a dinosaur soon, the next generation of cars will blow your Dinosaur away. Good luck. |

Not everyone thinks a fully ARB equiped twin cab ute is the coolest thing around. Some have that much crap hanging off them they look ridiculous.

This next gen thing has been going on for a while no In some case's the older dinosaur still stands up and delivers so no its not the case everytime next gen blows off certain older gen. Lets just wait and see in a few more years before getting all OTT about a comment for no its not because I own a Sprint but have had other Fords and other cars that this is proved wrong many times but no big deal lets get back on RR.

your XB has little or no emissions control equipment on it. try bolting a catalyst and particulate filter on the exhaust and see what power it makes then.

Wow, can't believe how this went off the tracks.
The 2.0 Panther is much lighter than the 3.2, very close to 100Kg from what I see and the 10-speed auto keeps the engine up in the torque range so it's gonna be a pretty good unit getting going, quicker then a 6AT 3.2 ranger for sure. But the extra horsepower in the upper range gives it that added oomph that diesels normally don't have at the top of the range. Last edited by jpd80; 11-04-2018 at 09:43 PM. |
