Question New XR6 - Am I missing something??

I've noticed my new XR6 doesn't have a footrest for the driver's left foot (auto g/box). Is this normal??

If it is, can another model footrest be installed?

Na... There IS a footrest. They call it the centre console..

You just need to recline the seat back to the 'home boy' position and hey presto ! :

Ford claims it for safety but I've certainly never heard of anyone being decapitated by their footrest.

The Au was the last with a decent foot rest

You can slide an appropiatly shaped lump under the carpet but the carpet sits up around it a little. (probably OK for an auto)

I took mine out again as the clutch pedal was catching on the carpet.

Next round will be to mould the carpet around the block or to attach a block to the top with a large backng plate to stop it moving.

I am sure I have seen somewhere that an AU footrest was adapted into a B-series.
There's no real need for a footrest anyway ... i find in my Territory that the floor comes up a little in that spot anyway and it's comfortable for me .... mind you ... power adjustable pedals make driver position adjustment so much better.

I drove my mates Laser without a footrest once and my foot had to sit under the clutch pedal.

/MITCHAY goes out to hug his bling footrest! :

Not much on its own, but combined with the lack of "Lower Grill" mesh and 2 gauges missing from the dash... :

I think he is meaning compared to the AU XR's ... which has extra instrumentation (oil pressure and volt meter).

I have no need for a footrest, I never use them.

Then again I only usually drive autos because my legs are too short for manuals (that is my excuse anyway...), so I don't know what having a manual without them is like.

But as MRJUCY said, Ford say it is due to safety that they do not put them in. Apparently in collisions having your foot there can potentially be more dangerous than not.

: I beg to differ

A footrest should hold the left foot at about the same height and angle as the right foot when just touching the accelerator pedal.

My left foot is about 40 or 50mm lower on this little rubber ripple in the carpet. You can hardly claim the rubber as a foot rest.

The footrest in my EL XR is the most underrated thing in the car, when cruising at 100kmhr on the freeway there's nothing better than realising u have something comfortable to rest ur foot on! Everytime Im in that situation and then i feel the footrest I think "that is great!"!

I've driven a VW that has a foot rest for the right leg. takes a bit of getting used to coming a falcon as the accelerator is normally in that exact spot.

Thankyou for your kind comments - what the world needs more of is jerks like you

If you had of taken the time to read the first few, it was really an inquirery as the car I traded, an EF Falcon had them and I didn't realise that the rest was no longer provided in Ford vehicles.

If you don't like reading the thread then go somewhere else for your commentry.

Ah the good old footrest.

My pov pack VL has no air con or P/S, but Holden added a footrest. lol

I hate driving a car, without one.

i dunno why everyone gets so excited/frustrated over the addition/lack of a footrest in a car - i've never used it in any of the cars i've had.. i honestly don't feel it provides any more comfort/rest than having your left foot anywhere else in the floor pan. Either way though, it is a bit cheap i guess, but maybe it's not an item that's in high demand from the customers ?

It is essential for me to have a car with a foot rest. Be it standard or possible to add one. It's such a simple thing but I think it does help with comfort.
