Failing AGAIN???

Ponting is averaging 65 for the WC and scored 113 against SA. He is also our second highest run scorer behind Haydos!
Gilchrist hasn't been in the best form but he's still managing 38 average and got 57 the other day too.

Hayden is in magic form at the moment, the rumour was that he would retire after the WC but with this form you would hope he will stay for a while longer!

His form has been surprising (at least to me). I believed he should have been dropped ages ago and Jaques put in there, but if he's going to post these sorts of scores then go Haydos, he's on fire right now. After the WC, I really hope he steps down though.

Ponting done by a magnificent 1 stump shot, he still has a lot of work to do this WC and he also has some damn good form, I have to agree with your surprise at someone critisizing Pontings form with the bat right now. He's the most feared batsmen in ODI cricket today.

Our batting looks strong but our bowling is a little rickety right now, IMO. Lee's absence has been noticeable at the start of the innings and McGrath isn't as potent as he once was.

If Ponting didnt get run out by a stroke of bad luck/silly play, he didnt look like going out before Hayden. He was in majic form.

As for Gilly, Well besides been the best keeper he has to be kept up the top order for like the start he did against SA even though I sometimes think he could swap places with Hussey and do some damage without the new ball swinging at him.

I haven't seen haydos play one day cricket so well before. I believe he had only scored 5 centuries prior to 2007? This year he's scored 4!!!

Healey was suggesting that Hussey, Watson and Symonds move up the order for the game agaisnt Bangladesh. I'd like to see Hussey hit form but I'd also like Hodge in the team. I could hope for an injury but wouldn't do that to anyone.

What happens now that the rest of the game was rained out? I've seen reports of a "two day game" and "reserve day" but no details. Is the remainder played tonight and, if so, televised?

Matthew Hayden's ninth ODI century powered Australia to a strong 322 for 6 in their first Super Eights match against West Indies before rain intervened and sent the game into the reserve day

On the front page of www.baggygreen.com.au at the moment.

Check out your own state, but according to that web site, it's being shown here in Adelaide at 11pm.

Great knock by Hayden again!

Jeezuz, some of the shots he played down the ground for six were amazing! Huge boundaries on that ground too!

It felt great being able to sit up and watch some good cricket again similar to when we last played the Ashes series in U.K. except that we lost that.

Didnt see it but yeah good win.Pontings 35 of 36 balls is good but i think someone of his " calibre" especially the way the aussie commentators talk about him, he should be scoring at least 70 odd runs all the time.

His average is 65 for the world cup.... Perhaps an extra 5 runs will make you happy :

I agree with our bowling. Bracken has been pretty good for us and is the most economical, but he's not a wicket taker. McGrath is our second highest wicket taker which surprises me as he hasn't been in the best form lately. I really think Brad Hogg has made the difference for us. He's actually our leading wicket taker and has been bowling well.

Thats average, i presume that would be taken like 15 runs off 18 balls, i wonder what his average and score would be like with 70 runs off of 75 balls. The point i am trying to make especially with the commentators and you who make out that ponting is some sort of batting whiz is that he is nowhere near that like gilchrist he has his " moments" ..

I have no idea what your saying. In the current WC Ponting averages 65 runs per game! He has hit 262 runs off 242 balls, with a highest score of 113.
How can anyone call that a failure????
He's been in great form for the last 2 or 3 years which is why the commentators make a fuss of him. You can't compare him to Gilchrist. Gilly will make a big score or he will go out early, that's his job as an opener. Ponting is without a doubt the best no.3 batsmen in the world. And let's not forget his fielding.

Im not sure, i could be wrong but it seems you maybe getting strike rate ( runs per 100 balls ) mixed up with average ( runs divided by bats ) Ponting is nearly always scoring at a run a ball or better and as for his average of 65 so far, doesnt suprise me, he was unlucky to get out this time with a direct hit run out. Batting whiz, i think he is, there wouldnt be to many batters out there better than him atm. Gilchrist does have his moments, being an aggresive opener as he is, he's more likely to fail than succeed, but when he's on song, theres no ground big enough to stop him.

just to pick you up on a minor point, batting average is calculated by runs divided by wickets. thats why a few 'not outs' will do your average wonders. a certain mr bevan used to get criticised for protecting his average as quite often he would end up not out. hussey is similar but starting to be more human these days
