Default Ring Road cameras

Well it seems as though Herr Bracks and the flunky bunch have found a new way of raping motorists.

I just got back from a breakdown and noticed the cameras on the Ring Road between Western Hwy and Princess Fwy being installed again, but this time there was something different.

It would seem that in the past they have not quite gotten the maximum benefit from these robo cops, they have found yet another way to make some money from unsuspecting drivers.

I saw them installing a speed camera in the exit lane coming off the Ring Rd onto Western Hwy from the Princess Fwy.

So what will the speed limit be in the exit lanes, but more importantly how will we know at which point on the road the new limit takes over???

I for one would have thought that someone with at least half a brain would have waited till after this weekend seeing as how the state election is on, but I guess I gave Bracksy too much credit.

correct me if im wrong but they did have them there before but only on the 2 lanes travelling north along the ring road not on the exit lane..
if they put them on the exit lanes then all hells goin to brake lose.
exit lanes from memory are 80kp/h then down to 60 kp/h before the traffic lights...
im thinkin it might be illegal to put a camera in between speed changes with out enough space to accomadate the change....mmmmm interesting ....

i don't get that bit?

is the camera(s) being installed on the geelong/werribee princes turn off(from ringroad heading south)?? -

or you mean the ballarat turnoff - as you come onto the ringroad from the princes, about 1-2K's there they have put those dodgy time over distance cams there just recently like 4-5 days ago.

i always sit on 100 on the turnoffs (advisery AFAIK) says 80.. both times - from princes onto ring road... then from ringroad on to princes.

Yep sorry Ballarat turn off north bound, coming from Princess.

As for the exit cameras it will be interesting to see what they do with the change of speed signs, in Victoria a camera or speed detection device can not be used within 100metres of a change of speed zones (if they haven't already changed this to suit themselves).

And yes the yellow signs are just advisory so technically cannot be enforced for this reason.

Will be interesting to see but if they are point to point then this would explain them as they would be losing a few fines from people getting off from exits and not tripping the next camera along the freeway.

I think we have just found how Herr Bracks has budgeted for all the works he has planned for his next term if he gets back in.

The polls are suggesting you guys havent learned your lesson yet But stranger things have happened....

I believe you need to be doing the "new" limit at the point where you pass the speed limit sign. Most of our freeways (we dont pay to drive, thanks) have the 60 fairly close to the termination point of the exit lane and it's 100 up until that point (with yellow advisory signs).

And - is this area we're talking about near the tullamarine highway? i.e. between the city and the airport?

Don't be fooled into thinking a change of Government will stop this. It makes too much money to be halted. Trust me, the next party in power will also reap what we sow.

I don't want them removed, personally i think they are a gret idea and free up alot of coppers to do other more important work.

Baillieu won't remove them but he will remove the BS zero tolerance and bring it in line with government legislation in regard to speedometer calibration.

Your speedo can be out by as much as 10%, so at 100km/h you might in fact be doing 110km/h without even realising, it is allowed by the government for manufacturers to do this and not be blamed for any indescrepencies. I think Baillieu was suggesting as much as 5% tolerance, which will be good.

How many stories have we all heard of someone being stung while overtaking, imagine that now with fixed cameras, you will have almost no chance of arguing this particular point.

Well they were working on them last night so unless it was a fitting trial because I did see cameras in the holders/brackets, they had 2 lanes blocked off just before the Western Hwy turn off as well as 2 lanes at the Boundary Rd? gantry, the last one before you hit Westgate Fwy city bound.

True, but you ever get caught behind a flow of traffic at 10+ under the limit? The last 10 years have seen some extraordinary increases in paranoia. Fixed and mobile cams are doing there job, and in some cases too well. I have seen people jab there brakes at parked cars, even though they were under the limit anyway. I even saw a car rear ended because he jabbed his brakes thinking the parked car ahead was a camera car.

Not always the case.... My NANA (who's in here 70's) got a ticket when the fixed cameras where going crazy....

165 in a 100 zone..... I think she was right on the money when she contacted them and said..."That may have been my blood pressure reading, but it was not the speed I was travelling at"...

Orsm, your right about the change in government the only way to beat them is to slow down.... But it would make me feel a whole lot better kicking them out!!!!

Gaming revenues and speed camera infringements are the two biggest cash cows for the Vic government of late. Either party will fight tooth and nail to keep both going.

I think it's time people woke up to the fact that the two major parties aren't the only choice on Saturday.

in terms of when you have to do the speed indicated is once you are passed that sign, you must be doing the indicated speed. it wont hurt to slow down a bit before the sign, and it might save you licence.
