Sorry if this is a repost but I didnt find it on these forums.
Apparently a senator in the US considers us as a rogue state. How very nice of them. Its funny how they consider anyone who has or is remotely related to nuclear weapons to be rogue. I think they will be happy when the US hold 100% of the world's weapons. link: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...92-401,00.html

"He said this made the US less safe because "more countries have nuclear weapons today which means the possibility of nuclear weapons falling into the wrong hands has increased dramatically".
Right....... because the US don't give guns to anyone. What a f%%ken ****er. |

Hey, a question re US/Australia relationships. America has had the run of our backyard for decades, vis-a-vis Pine Gap, Narrungar, North-West Cape, Woomera & so on. So basically they know ALL the ins and outs here with respect to our energy/defence status and capability. We also lent them a battalion or two to fight their spurious wars. Not a bad input/contribution from us eh? So what's their friggin' problem?

Aside from excercising our right to have an opinion on the guy, it's pretty much where the buck stops - in terms of "what can actually be done". Have a laugh at George W's expense, then move on. I dont see the point in detailed criticisms of his policies, behaviour or mental capacity. Unless you're registered to vote in the US... you're not going to have much of an impact... (well he's a two termer so that's that innit?) As far as finding any redeeming features... well, you just gotta look i guess. I've got the "bushisms" calendar on my desk, a stupid quote for every day... i see the jokes at his expense on US late night TV, pretty funny... i see what the left wing in the US has to say about him - not particularly flattering. But then when flicking through the US news channels on a typical late night foxtel surf a few months back, i stumbled across a press conference with some association of journalists in washington D.C. He was being quizzed on a variety of issues - one of them being healthcare. And i feel kinda silly saying this - but George W was actually pretty impressive. He knew the subject matter very well, was pretty well spoken and actually had some balanced views on the topic.... and was not being fed by a teleprompter (which is usually where he comes unstuck). I guess thats a side of him which the media doesnt find newsworthy - but i was absolutely gobsmacked. I had genuinely been indoctrinated to BELIEVE that he was nothing more than a clown with the IQ of a 5 year old. As have a lot of people. To see him making sense, getting his wording right - and actually KNOWING something.... it really is a bizarre thing, when so many people are telling you he is stupid. Haha, i wouldnt say it materially changed my opinion of him - but was one of those moments... i dunno, i was just shocked at how my opinion had been lead to a certain point - the point so many have reiterated here - without actually "checking it out" for myself.

There was a show on this last week I saw on the ABC while channel surfing. It was about the nuclear race starting in the 40's and Australia wanted to be part of it for weapons and power stations, the US refused to allow any information get to us but were quite willing to use here for testing purposes along with the british

And they wonder why people don't trust them??
They are like the cheating husband/wife constantly accusing the innocent partner so as to try to get the attention off from themselves, everything is a conspiracy over their. 4'n'20 had best beware they might take the meat pie invasion as a secret Australian plot to microchip the US population and then control there brainwaves. I think it's time someone blew them off the map, financially that is lol, devalue the $US to the point where they are no longer a player on the world economic table. Simple i know but a man can dream can't he

Yes there is a bit of stupidity in this thread.
He will need to work on his international relations if he plans to be anything other than a bit player in the political game over there. We may have one of, if not the, best special ops sections of armed forces at our disposal, but we are hardly strong enough to think of sending a nuclear weapon USA, or anyone's way. (Even if we create them)

And also exporting the parts for the nukes in our Vegemite jars. But apparently we've been found out and they banned Vegemite.

Damn I forgot that they had discovered that the folate in vegemite is a major component. Now we will have to send in 4&20 pies undisclosed.

True but then we would have to consume it and pass it to get the component out and into the nuke.

Looks like all of you didnt read the article thoroughly, no where does he say Australia is a rogue state, nor does he imply it. The only person who did say and imply it was the journalist who wrote the article.
You guys will take any excuse to bash America FFS

I could see no reference to Australia being a "rogue state" either! I would rather see the unedited transcript of the speech than read what a journalist has summarised. Didn't journos fall at the bottom of a trustworthy rating survey along with pollies a while back?
cheers Bill.

If you think he's an idiot, try listening to Republican he's campaigning against...
This guy isn't an idiot, he just needs a new speech writer and needs to watch the news, besides which, as a congressman he has absolutely nothing to do with foreign policy, and everything to do with domestic policy, which he seems to have a fairly good grasp on. you people need to look at the bigger picture. you can bag this guy all you like, but at the end of the day he's still a better option than the neo-con nutcase republican he's running against, who not only has no grasp on foreign policy, but also insists that America is not heading for a recession, there is no such thing as global warming, and is certain that the best way to boost the economy is to give more money to the military and impose a flat, regressive tax system on America's working poor. he's also corrupt. hmmm...... thanks, but i think i'll take the democrat. oh, and as an aside, i'm also american, and i'll have you know we're not all idiots thanks very much. contrary to popular belief there are in fact a large number of us who can actually think with our own heads, and don't think Fox News is akin to gospel. here is what he said.
"Today nine countries have it - more than ever before - and 40 are seeking it, including Argentina, Australia and South Africa," he said. |

To be perfectly honest it wouldn't suprise me if we were. Furthermore, he hardly put us "in league" with rogue nations. i think he was more addressing the fact that nuclear proliferation is a bad thing generally.
