Its one thing to order these plates and then try to sell them for $5000 profiting from someones death, but I would hate more the pin-head who actually buys them and displays them on a car :

Where's the problem? It's a free country.

Poor taste, yes. But what business is it of yours?

Morals are a set of values defined by a person's upbringing and background. No two people have the same set of morals. It would be most inappropriate for you to impose your moral beliefs on this person.

Remembering that one of the fundamentals of our society is the freedom to say and do what you want (so long as it's within the boundaries of what is considered legal).

For a second I thought he was capitalizing on the misfortune of a major Australian icon, his family, and a nation of motorsport admirers.

I have the same dim view of those who raised the price of there Brock Commodores as soon as he passed.

Respect the dead, don't profit from them.

A soceity operates via a set of morals. Society also has to have standards, the law, though it prides itself of being moral is not always moral.
Freedom of speech is indeed a right but what you say or do is not always morally right.
Trying to make money from a dead person's memory, while legally right is morally wrong.

Have you read Albert Camus' "The Outsider", a good read regarding morality and society!

The Musee de louvre, National Gallery, Vatican Galeries, acutioneers... these people are in the moral red?

Making money from a dead person's memory is held in very high regard by many of the world's leaders - and indeed, amoungst those of us with little/no power at all.

In 1987, Van Gogh's "Irises" went at auction for 49 million pounds. It was painted in the 19th century just months before the artist comitted suicide. I recall very little outcry around the time of this sale.

Howabout the purchaser? Should we also be critical of someone willing to pay inflated prices for PB's work? If someone were to purchase it, should we not therefore congratulate the seller for making this person's desires achievable?

People are free to buy and sell goods/services at whatever price they want. If someone is willing to pay that much, then the market has been made and two people will engage in that transaction - and it has absolutely nothing to do with you.

Should we be demanding a more reasonable price? Or should we prohibit them from selling it at all?

I stand by my point that the fundamentals of society are not at risk.

Not sure where manners came into the topic... or is it just a general whinge session now? lol

Yes, we have forgotten them.

Manners for one.

Self-responsibility another.

And although we may have different morals and values, manners never killed anybody (while being rude makes you a *****), and self responsibility ensures that people accept their faults, learn from them, and get on in life, rather than trying to blame somebody else.

Seems a tad hypocritical.... it's a free country but you question people expressing an opinion

Expressing an opinion is quite different to imposing your will upon someone else.

State that you dont agree with the seller's behaviour and move on.

The thread states that some sort of violent action should be taken. That's a little more than expressing an opinion.

I bet the person who has those number plates probably drives around with them on a ford.
very ignorant and whoever has them on their car will get flamed, abused and their car will probably get damaged all due to the number plates.

Let them go for it, but more often than not, people are smart enough not to buy them. So the seller is the one at a loss.

Supermarket checks outs aren't the same anymore no manners.
This is the same not nice. There are worse i think but not much worse.
Someone tried to sell the horn button off a XU1 which had PB's Sig on it, It's factory standard but the guy wanted a small fortune for it.
Another was a hat i got when PB was at Bathurst last year, His Sig is on the back. they wanted $50 for them each. I bought 2 for $15.
There just cashing in on his name and death.
Here are some of them. If the prices were reasonable instead of ridicules they might actually sell them.

You will notice that no-one has bid on this stuff....any of this stuff.

PB used to sign whatever was thrust in front of him like most drivers do....there is a heap of stuff around.

The only things that I think realisticaly have increased in value since his death are his brocky enhanced cars and then by only a few thousand - haven't seen any of them being offered for sale.

I knew a bloke who restored a VC (?) Brocky - ...spent a fortune and brocky signed his sunvisor "Enjoy Life - Peter Brock" - I'm sure that is worth a little more now. PB must have got such a kick out of seeing his old brock specials.

By the way am I the only person who thinks that the painting makes PB look a little like burt reynolds circa "Smoke and the Bandit" days???

Well, yeah, it was. But that's another matter.

Although, one might note that Lenin would most certainly have disapproved of the whole display of his body.
