Default my missus leg. what to do.

yesterday my misses woke up with a lump on her shin , the size of a hand . it has broken skin in the centre . like a spider bite . by luch time it was hot to touch . was burning sensation she says and the size of her foot . the gp put her on antibiotics . last night it flattenned out but was hot . today seemed better but a bruise developing around centre about 30mm . but now her shin is slightly red and slightly hot from knee to ankle and her ankle is mildly swollen .
any ideas.

Im no doctor, but i would recommend getting a second opinion from a perhaps a bites expert or go to the hospital if it still concerns you.

Yep see the doc. White Tail spiders can cause similar reactions to this.

They will consult those with the most life threatening first and in order of that. Best to be in a hospital waiting than be home and her having a serious reaction during the night with no medical attention close by.

Maybe. Anti-biotics will not treat the venom in a spider bite. It may treat any infection that results from broken skin though.

If it was a serious bite like a redback or similar, then it would've require anti venom.

Sorry im not in a position to add to any of the previous recommendations aside from get to a hospital (they have people at the hospital dedicated to this kind of thing IIRC!!).

But the antibiotics will fight off any infection or bacterial attack from the bite. It's a common prescription for spider bites... even the harmless huntsman can give you a nasty infection... remember it's 'exchanging' some of its previous meal with you when it bites. Other spiders give you a bacterial infection "on purpose".

Its best not to take risks especially if its your missus. Better safe than sorry. If the hospital doctor says it is nothing to worry about then its ok then.

Im no doc either, but logic would have as being a spider/nasty insect bite that reacts to the area bitten but doesnt go around the whole body so you call rule out red back and funnel webs as she would be sick as a dog spewin getting cold sweats etc.

Take her to the hospital though as it could be something totally unrelated to an insect bite.

Why?

Hands up all here that went to med school? This is a car forum. Not a place for medical advice. Go to someone who knows what they're talking about. You suspect it's a spider bite, I'd tend to agree. I dare say it's not life threatening, but I'm not a doctor. They can be serious. We're not here because we know about spider bites, we're here to discuss how ugly AUs are, how to change E-series headgaskets with minimal cable tie usage and bicker about who has the faster unopened red car in such and such a postcode.

thanks for the replies . i'm not sure she wants to go to hospital . so the options are wait and see. it's been 2 1/2 days already. or borrow sourbastards supercharged chainsaw.

wait and see may not be the best option. If her foot is starting to swell it may mean other effects of the bite are happening in different areas to the bite itself, which is not good. Go to the horsepiddle and just get a doc to check it out - a GP just would have said 'right a spider bite, you aint shaking or spewing everywhere so it wasnt a deadly spider so take these and youll be fine'.
