I couldnt believe this!
I was driving along Albany Hwy approaching Nicholson traffic lights (quite a busy Road... 3 lanes either side) and noticed the traffic lights were down. Anyway... we all did our thing, letting some people through and pushing our own way... Just as I got through the lights I saw some cops parked 50 meters ahead of me with a handheld trying to catch people coming the other way for speeding!? Now shouldn't they be parked in the middle of the traffic lights directing people instead of trying to catch someone out?

It's pretty poor they weren't directing traffic.
But if i had a quota to fill, I'd be doing just that. Bugger the sods in the cars, they'll work it out themselves. |

They were probably booking people for not giving way on the right as well :yeees:
If it is a 3 lane each way it is usually each man to them selves and bugger the rest , common sense and courtesy goes out the window

Okay, so lights are down, why should cops be 'automatically expected' to then do traffic light duty? I suspect workcover issue plays here.
Would it not be better or safer for them to target IDIOTS going too fast OR not giving way, or both, for those drivers taking advantage of the situation at point of operation?? Just a thought. Typically when lights fail they are to flash amber. |

Work cover issues…. WTF are they there for then? So the next time I walk into a bank and take a loaded 410 shotgun with me, I’ll feel a lot safer knowing that the keystone cops won’t do anything because if I decide to shoot at them, under OH&S this could be considered hazardous to their safety. What if there was an accident at this intersection, would the cops consider that worthy of their attendance? Also, "News Flash" lights won’t flash amber if there is a power shortage. You’ve really excelled on this one.

Perhaps the police aleady called it in and were advised to not respond as traffic directors (the dudes with white gloves) where already on their way, or that the traffic system was gonna have it back up in a couple of mins....

Fact: Regardless of whether you like Mr Keepleft or not - he's actually out there, helping to be PART OF THE SOLUTION. Whilst he never directly states it - if you care to read between the lines of his posts, its quite obvious that his advocacy activities have had a positive impact on the rules/regulations both from a law enforcement view - but more importantly from a MOTORIST'S perspective. Question for the members of AFF: A discussion is occuring regarding aspects of road safety, traffic control and enforcement of the above. Do you listen to - a) A motoring safety advocate who actually involves him/herself in the development of road rules in australia, has international experience and is familiar with all things road safety related... or b) Someone who makes "a good point" Lol. "Keystone cops". Charming. Well, i for one am glad there are individuals in our community willing to risk their lives in order to enforce the laws - road related and otherwise - to maximise our safety.

Experts built the Titanic, loaded it with half the lifeboats required and tried to race against time in dangerous conditions. They're experts, they know what they're doing... Whereas some bloke could have come along, who had no idea, looked at the senario, made a few 'good points' and had he been listened to - the disaster might not have happened. Ok, an out there senario - but just highlighting my point. Just because you have some knowledge or experience - doesn't stop you from being wrong. A good point is just that - a good point. I know in my industry, some people have decades of experience, and can still learn from some outsider who looks at an issue and makes a 'good point'. They aren't always right either, and most importantly - don't assume to be. They can look at (and draw from) what other people have to say, no matter what their 'experience'. Quote:

IF you feel a need to complain about the particular police, the first point of call for you to complain is to directly to the Patrol Commander or LAC. Police will often operate 'with seeming oddity', yet will certainly have their own operational reasons for doing so. Let me make this analogy - Mrs Wilson knocks over a STOP sign at a four way intersection (An $800 cost to LMCC to replace). Remember the LINE still applies. Snr Constable Carr plods along to scene and spots Siiic Willie slowing down and through, but not stopping. Should Carr have overlooked Siiic Willie or taken opportune action? OR should Carr have instead parked safely? put on WORKCOVER required vest and immediately attended to traffic duty? Every scene and situation is different, no one fast hard rule can apply, but certain 'parameters' such as vests do apply. Redgum - it is a FACT NSW Workcover Inspectors have penalised police. They have authority to do so here, but must not interfere with policing per se. Quote:

Wow when i saw the name i thought ok. I just come in hear and remind people about the general rule of giving way to your right. But in this case. Thats pretty stupid. Sounds like there only coppers who do what there told not have some initative and help out in a more higher priority situation
