Just your thoughts from our esteemed FordForums members who have been to the Melbourne International Motor show, what has caught your eyes from all the cars on display or was there something special that you really liked.
I haven't been there yet but plan to go this weekend. Cheers John

Little Blue sedan is the new Focus Ghia on optional 17's (the standard Zetec rims) - normally on 16's. Terrific package, BA sized boot (NO JOKE!!!!!) with leather, dual zone climate control, cruise, power windows all round, 6 stacker, 60/40 split fold rear seat, Sequential Sport shift, Driver, passenger fron and side airbags... hang on is this a Focus or a Fairmont Ghia?!!!!!! Amazing how far the small cars have come. I'll have a Ford GT and a Focus Ghia dumped on 17's please!!!!!

I went on....Thursday night after uni.
A few notables: + The Ford stand, despite what it may sound like, is actually pretty good. The "Devil R" and "Enforcer" specials are great...as is that Ford GT. I never get tired of looking at it. + Mercedes had all of their cars open!!!! CLK 55 AMG Baby!!!! + BMW's stand was, I feel, a little lacklustre, yet I love BMW. Can't pin-point it...but the only interest to me was the M5. + That RS4 is a serious piece of machinery. Audi have done well with that. Looks sensational too. + There were 3 racing simulator games. Holden had a V8 Supercar one, Mitsubishi had a rally one (where you were actually sitting inside a Lancer to experience it) amd Renault had a F1 simulator. The Renault one was particularly good because the person with the fastest time of the whole motor show wins an Advanced/Precision Driver training course. The fastest time was 1min 30sec when I went...I got 1min 35sec. Grrr. Close, considering everyone else around me was doing 1min 50-odd. All in all it is a pretty good show this year, some people over-hyped it for me by telling me it was the best ever...I don't really agree, but it was still good.

+ Aston Martin DB9. Whoa. Absolutely stunning piece of machinery. I would love to have one of them sitting in the driveway. The styling flows so well and I am sure it goes well too. + New Ford Focus. In a word...sweet. Having loved the styling of the previous model I was sceptical about the new look when I saw the pictures...however I must say it looks a treat - inside and out. The interior is classy and modern, and the exterior does the job. Unfortunately no matter how good it is I don't see it recovering ground in sales due to its poor brand image and sales so far. + Fairmont and Fairlane interiors. Look great. A real classy feel to them, they seem to have a new colour highlight to them on the inside and it does the job well. The yellow-beige leather looks really good and the grey, wood-patterned panelling looks quite nice. Impressed.

The New Focus has 107kw in a new Duratec 2.0 16v engine, highest power in the class for a base model car. Standard engine across the range. That's better than Mazda 3, Corolla and Golf.
If anyone is coming between 10am and 4pm on Sunday, come and say Gidday, I'm on the Focus stand at the front.

I went last weekend. I think it's the first time I've paid to get in.
And what a bloody rip off that was! $16 bucks, I didn't dare look at food pricing. |
