Website Making Help

Ok hey everyone. I didnt know where to put this so i thought i mite place it here. Now i am planning on making a website for a band i like and im not sure how to go about it. Now in the past i have made crummy little websites with frontpage but i want to go to something more professesional. I was thinking Dreamweaver. now my question is, is wat program do you think i should use and also if anyone knows for any sites which gives u kind of tutorials for programs such as dreamweaver. Any help would be appreciated.

There are plenty of good Dreamweaver tutorials out there. Along with Fireworks for some graphics and menus, you can make a great website out of it.

You can also make great websites with Macromedia Flash, check out some good resources at http://www.w3schools.com/flash/default.asp or http://www.flashkit.com/index.shtml.

Or you could download a layout at www.freelayouts.com and add some dynamic content from www.dynamicdrive.com which has heaps of scripts.

Thanx, ive used swish before which is a fair bit like flash i believe. I'll "obtain" dreamweaver and fireworks now. Are they hard to use?? Also u know of any tutorials for them two? U got any links. Cheers

dream weaver isnt all that hard to use bro, i usually use flash cause i havent done much in fireworks, but then again i havent used flash much either lol

im in the proccess of upgrading my site cause it looks really crappy imo

ok i got it working, i just had to reinstal it, now im sittin here thinkin wtf lol. I guess ive got a lot of reading ahead of me

dreamweaver should have some inbuilt tutorials i think, the help is pretty good too.
once youve got the hang of the layout of DW you should be right if you know a bit about html

Yea lol ive just been fiddlin round with fireworks for the last hour or so doing the tutorials, only prob is i doubt ill be able to rememember lol. Tomoz nite can be dreamweaver nite. Ill get the hang of it soon enough. lol pity i dont know nuffin bout html

Like many things, don't expect your first site to be 'the worlds greatest'. It will take a while before that happens ;)

Just be patient and learn.

Personally I just hack out the HTML code and get the basics done first, put a still under construction jpg/gif and upload it. Later on I start adding all the enchancements.

Trust me, if I can learn HTML anyone can!

You have to learn to walk before you can run. ;)

Lol k, i dont have the patience to read through them all atm lol. Just fiddling around. Can anyone tell me how to make special kind of buttons you know wat i mean, like ones where u move the mouse over them and the like come out etc. Im using dreamweaver, is this the right program or should i be using fireworks??

Are you making your own buttons or do you just want to have a look around on the net instead of going to all that trouble?
I don't know if Photopaint is available for trial but that's what I use.
Or there is always old reliable Xara Webstyles (you can make buttons, headers and backgrounds with this programme), Paint Shop Pro is a little harder to get around but well worth it IMHO.

Does dreamweaver have any built in?? Like can you create them and then link them to other parts and make them do special effects etc. Ya know wat i mean??

You can use flash and rollover button in Dream Weaver.
Just go to "Insert" in the top bar and then "Interactive Images".
There's a few different Flash buttons you can choose from.

yea i see wat you mean. not bad. Lol wat i really want to achieve is the effect where u move the mouse over and for example a sub menu comes up and then theres more option in there. Lol ya kinda get me. Just make it looka bit more fancy lol. Anyone know how to do that?

Compress the hell out of it or see if you can find a .wav file on the net. It will take longer to load though and people don't like waiting a long time for pages to load.

Yea ive got a small mp3 only 200kb's or so i want to put into my page. only prob is i cant find like an option anywhere u know. ALso anyway know how to do the sorta menus im after??
