Default Melbourne... (not dial-up friendly)

...from 35 storeys high.

I spent the weekend on the 35th floor at City Tower in Melbourne,
and I thought I'd share some of the views with you all.

Melbourne looks so boring compared to Sydney in those pictures. They give me this dull feeling.

*Puts flame-proof suit on*

PS: Nice photo taking. The night pics are cool.

Once again Steffo you show how little of life you understand. Its not till you've lived in a city likeMelbourne you understand the richness of the lifestyle.

Hell in Melbourne of a Friday night you can even shop late for a potato, OR go see a game of VFL. :

Without ingniting a war i would agree with steffo, but common sense would say if your from Vic you would be in favour of melbourne, and for good reason.

ELXR8,
I have worked and lived in most australian cities with the only ones not worked in or visited being the northern territory. so far the list is

Adelaide
Melbourne
Sydney
Perth
Hobart
Brisbane

Plus smaller locations, My first thoughts on sydney before spending time there was, well i just did not even want to visit as it appeared terrible recently i spent some 18 months there ( admittedly i was living rather well while there either overlooking the harbour bridge at Mcmahns Point or in a 5 star accomodation pack ), but after the experiance of being there one can not help see why sydney is a great location, it has great beaches, good shopping, a great climate and good people ( good people in all cities anyway ) and the views at night are simply stunning, along with the vibrant nightlife.

To square the ledger i have also lived in melbourne ( about 2.5 years ) and yes also a nice city with a cooler tempreture that i never really got used to, but the real treasure in victoria has to be outside of melbourne itself your country side is absolutley incredible and you could cruise around in the country for days and be inspired by the scenery at every turn.

Hobart, sorry guys to darn cold.
Perth Like a modern adelaide, very nice.
Brisbane, kept getting lost dont know who designed the streets up there ?
Adelaide, Out of all cities this is my favorite city it is a very clean city with good temprature most of the time. Sydney would be the next choice if i wanted to move.

The photo's are brilliant and i remember crossing that bridge hundreds of times ( thanks for the memories )

Ive been top every state capital atleast once and lived for awhile in a few and I have to say Melbourne is my favorite. Couldnt stand the driving in Adelaide (whats with the no freeway thing?), Sydney just got on my nerves around the suburbs, Darwin: Well I spent 4 years there and will never move back. I might go back for a holiday but thats it. The only other I could see myself living in is Perth, havent got anything negative at all to say about the place, absolutely loved it!

Unfortunately I only had a 180 degree view of Melbourne, from the NW to the SE. They wouldn't let me climb to the roof (next floor) to get some shots of the other side, wich shows majority of the Melbourne CBD, but oh well.. next time I'll stay on the other side of the building!

Thanks for the comments. I'm still learning how to use my camera.

I can see my work in that last pic!

I was born in SA but I love Melbourne also. I've been to ADL & SYD before. I can tell you that MEL is very different!

This is my city at its best. You have a wasted talent there Warren. I all so have been to most of out major citys and the only veiw i like is when you fly in over Melbourne. Perth To clean. Queensland to much of the same thing. Sydney to gay. Adelaide To many churchs. Tassie to bloody cold. NT To bloody hot most of the time. But one thing they all have in commen is the people. It dose not matter where you go in this great brown land they welcome you with open arms.

Very good shots pearly, and to the person who commented on brisbanes streets. I would take brisbanes streets over melbournes anyday of the week, atleast you can find your way around a hell of lot easier than down here. That is the only thing i dont like about melbourne city the streets are way to confusing and you definatley cannot go by land marks.

stunning photos..
but in all honesty they do make melbourne look dull, but as Warren said, the CBD is on the opposite side of where those photos were taken, thus you don't even really get to see melbourne!

still nice to see the docklands all lit up

I've lived in both Brisbane and Melbourne. I'd take the strets in Brisbane over Melbourne any day. Apart from Eagle St I could memorise almost every area of Brisbane from Nambour to Southport. In the end I hardly ever needed to look at a map more than once. All I needed to do was see where the street was and I was good to go.
After spending the same time in Melbourne I STILL cant do that. It is simply a bigger and older city. Some of the inner city suburbs are a rat run in a big way and the East side of Melbourne is so big I doubt I'll ever remember more than th basic turns off the Monash (thank god for that Freeway, without it I wouldnt even bother heading East).

As for livability, Melbourne stomps Brisbane hands down. I wont go back to Qld again.

haha Sounds riveting. Next time I'm in Melbourne I'll remember to add potato shopping to my list... :nutsycuck

I couldn't handle the Melbourne CBD. Horrible. Stupid trams and backwards ways of driving round a corner with weird *** right of way lanes and stuff. Plus the shopping was no different to Sydney. That bit really ****ed me off as I was hanging to blow money while I was down there.

The nighlife I've yet to experience but so far I've heard good stuff. There's one club in particular where DJ Hellraiser plays...the pharmacy gigs. I so wanna go there.

Maybe outside the city is better. I'll have to do a road trip.

Canberra is pretty good at night. My no means spectacular but still is pretty nice. If you want to see skyline pictures of a city at night then get a hold on some pictures of Hong Kong. I work in a photolab and say its bloody impressive when pictures of hong kong come in.

very nice i went to melbourne 17 years ago and it still looks the same.but i wouldn't know where to go if i went for a holiday there now .adelaide and perth were my favourites though . makes you wonder sometimes when your stuck into a good job , nice mortgage, family nice house . why we're stuck for so long . i envy people who commit themselves to nowhere and just live somewhere untill they get bored and move on every few years .but it doesn't seem possible or real with a family .
