Talking CD/DVD Wallet?

Does anyone know why Ford still lets you buy it as an accessory for $30 when ordering a new car from them in Australia?
(I know some markets you can option a CD player so for there it might make sense)
Do they have a warehouse full of these here that they are trying to get rid of?
Thought it was bizarre, anyone else have any theories?

(this post is more for fun and not serious)

For sure, only sliding burnt discs or mp3 discs in to a wallet.

It's not a CD wallet, it's a holster for your Shuriken.

I buy CDs still. But I rip them in AIFF uncompressed to iTunes and put them on our phones and iPod Classic.

I used to, but when most of my listening is via headphones or in the car, the benefit of lossless or very high bitrate is negligible. I just stream now. None of our PCs have CD/DVD drives, and the hifi system hasnt been turned on in years. I'll probably get rid of all our CDs when we move.

Build a car on the Ford website and look under optional accessories. It does not say how many discs it can hold.

Also from memory a CD/DVD lifespan outside of laboratory conditions is under 20 years so anyone here with large collections of music on CD will probably want to start doing digital backups of your extensive music libraries, there's a huge rate of failure within 20 years.

One imagines it's going to be worse for music stored inside a glovebox with those hot/cold cycles.

I've lost a few older CDs to age and also recently a USB stick that was sitting in one of my cars for a few years but they're not as robust as optical media it seems.

Thanks. Almost 20 years ago I ripped and burned my CD collection in random order onto many CD's to use in the new XR8.

These days I can now play any song I want via Android Auto but I still have those CD's in two large wallets. I think I might need an extra one of these Ford ones maybe if I was to go that way.

Last time I bought a CD was over a decade ago, but I'm still semi-oldskool and prefer to buy music on iTunes so I still have a digital copy rather than streaming.

i'm still buying cd's .. don't download nor use itunes [would have to change to apple - so that's a no]. altho i find it a little hard to be more up to date than what i am [50's to '00's, bulk is 70's to 90's].

cd/dvd wallets are or were available in various configurations & fitting styles, altho why you would have em in the sun most of the time. . . . . ...

I still use CDs and have wallets for them as they are a lossless format and always sound better.

I have two wallets and recently had to chuck a few CDs as they were peeling from 20 years ago.

I wouldn't buy new CDs though as digital storage is so cheap these days in comparison to when MP3 came out and streaming is more integrated.

I will have enough though to load up a stacker every now and again so long as it doesn't break

Played some old tapes dating back as far as the early to mid 90's on my sister's vintage 1986 twin deck ghetto blaster. Tapes played OK, though the deck needed a little foreplay to get it going.

No need to use the cassette deck with the mighty crossy soundtrack.

It was all the songs I wanted to listen to in the car at the time. I may have done a few more in the following years, but I was more selective on buying CD's.

I just went and checked, they are 32 disc wallets, still in mint condition all round. I keep them in the car cause they can still be played and they are part of it's history.
