Mate I would love one of them, there was one for sale in Moree in north west NSW, for a good price a while back pretty sure it was a matching numbers 351 4 speed manual.

If you are keen to travel I can find out if it is still available as I still have the contact details of the person that was selling it.

What is your budget??

Happy to inspect it for you and get photos if it's still around, it's about an hour from me.

They are starting to get fairly crazy in price now. There was one in Unique Cars a couple of months back for nearly 80 large. I paid under 20 for mine back in 2009 which now seems like a wise investment.

If they are worth that much I might grab the one at Moree for myself, was pretty mint for a LOT less than 80K. I might contact the guy regardless and take it for a test drive...then to convince the missus that I need another V8.

G'day...Never (obviously owned ESP..but owned an XE for several years)..
All I know is the XE shape is a really classy one..Mine was a 4 speed manual but with the 4.1 crossy 6...Only issue in five years before I traded on a Telstar Ghia was 'saggy bloody doors'..I had a real close look at the ESP a couple of years ago at a Tassie car show and they still look the goods..One of the real lookers for sure and a real goer too...Good luck getting a nice one soon..and we'll want some pictures of her to show her off...Cheers Rod..

What is a good matching numbers factory 4 speed 351 XD ESP worth these days??

An XD ESP 351 manual could be worth upto $50k if in immaculate low kay condition.

Nothing beats the XE however IMO.

At least 30 grand now. If it is A1, closer to 40.

Agree with QIKESP - my XD was only the 4.1 4spd Falcon version but I still miss it today!! Just a good cruiser with the Scheel seats and the Bilstein suspension - the manual steering was a bit of a pig though (16:1 ratio) but it wasn't too bad once the car was moving

I think it was was late 1984 I walked into Denmac Ford in Qld and bought an i6 XE Fairmont demonstrator at a really good price because it was a manual.

On the showroom floor was the silver ESP 4.9 auto that became the stuff of legends as it was supposed to be the last one or last V8 or something. Don't know what happened to it after Denmac later went into receivership.

XE much better car though with better rear suspension. But yeah I certainly wasn't thinking 80 large lol. I would never pay that much for any Aussie muscle, not for how cheap you can get some awesome American iron. I can believe ask stupid money for them but don;t believe they sell for that money. Same as the silly prices for all the FG GTs on Carsales etc. bet not one of them is selling.

Mine is a matching numbers XE S-PAC 351. I'm told there were 423 of them with somewhere near 400 going out as GL chasers to the cops and the remaining couple of dozen going as S-packs into private hands. I know it's not an ESP but I'm told there aren't many of the S-pack 351s left.

One of my dream cars as well, but unfortunately their value is skyrocketing at the moment. Only a few years ago the usual asking price was $40k for a good one, but now I'm seeing stuff like this;

http://www.musclecarstables.com.au/details.php?id=780

$76kono! Pretty sure they had $80k on it a few weeks ago, so these asking prices are not always a good indication of what they actually go for, but still... Pretty sure an offer of $40k wouldn't get you far.

That is an absolutely mint 60,000 km car with uniroyal tyres...and is likely IMO very deserved recipient of a price premium. $40K would be a f....king insult for that even a few years ago.

The problem is that every knucklehead with a busted **** 300,000km rusted out POS ESP also thinks their car is worth $80K.

It sure is an amazing example, but $76k? I think that's ambitious and another example of the Aussie muscle car market going crazy again.

How much on top of their game were Ford Australia when they came up with the XE ESP?
4.1 EFI / 4.9 / 5.8 V8's.
The Ghia options were fantastic - rear headrests combined with speakers.
Cool stereo sound system, upmarket fabrics.
Snowflake alloys, full dashboard of goodies.
Love them.

Kind of related. I think I have the 351 from an XD ESP in my XB GT, the globes from the same car in the shed too. Bought an XD from a guy in Canberra as a parts car back in 2003 and he told me he wrapped his ESP around a tree and transferred all the running gear into the car I bought from him. Been tempted to rip it all out of the GT and build an XD ESP clone.

I had #178; 5.8L 4speed, as they all were.
Mine didn't have electric windows, as I didn't see the need of it at the time. Was an impressive drive, even stock. As a long distance cruiser, at the time, it could not be beaten. Outstanding in the corners etc..

Only kept it 12 months and traded it back to the dealer I brought it from. It was the only car I ever made money on when I sold it.

Same same here, though my XE was an S pak,, baa hum bug to the S pak options basically screw all of nothing. Though I do wish I bought the Silver XE Fairmont ESP right next to the monza red s pak I bought instead for $1k less at the time. I traded out all the wonderful beige S-Pak interior for fairmont or fairlane grey much nicer in a red car. I did blow a few diffs in it too hehehe

To the original poster good luck on your hunt for a good ESP I hope you get one, I still wish I had my S pak, and wish even more I had a XE Fairmont ESP...302 ..51 man or auto, but would not part with my S/c Miami to get on either lol

Keen to find one myself after having a succession of XD's to XF's in the late 80's and 90's but yeah $80k is getting up there. Plan B could well be a relatively unmolested FC/FD LTD or XD/XE interceptor. Of all of the ones I had the highlight was a 1980 XD S Pack ute in brambles red from the factory with light tan interior, 351c, FMX and mysteriously a 9 inch rear that was either factory fitted or if not was retrofitted with all the oem cables and lines that it looked like it was. This was back in 92 pre internet forums and knowledge we have now. Would anyone have any insight as to whether a 9 inch could have found it's way into an XD from factory? In the meantime I will dig around for a pic to post
