Poor old bugger. At 88yo might be dead before he gets it back.
Got to be 45km/hr over or dropping a skid for an impound. Maybe both.

Was pressing the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.
Happens all the time in that age group.

Growing old sucks, but nothing beats making the news at 88 for ripping one in a mobility scooter. in this joke of a road safety system, the HWP would probably tip me out of the mobility scooter headfirst and call a towtruck and impound the mobility scooter.

Going through an intersection with traffic lights and a speed camera.
I don't care what anyone says, doing 127 through a major intersection is lunacy.
And he's going to defend it because he's driven on autobahns in Germany and used to be a rally driver, big deal, he's a menace on the road. He went on to say Police should be targeting young hoons not people like him who know what they're doing, really? Reality check I'm afraid old mate.
When he was being interviewed on TV had a real superior attitude, my money is he gets busted driving under suspension.

On my drive down to GAFD I got caught up in the middle of about 30 exotic cars merging on from a servo comprising Lamborghinis, Porsches, Ferraris, Maseratis, Bentleys and similar marques. A lot of them were convertibles and a lot of the drivers were oldies with grey hair, and they loved slowing down and giving it some gas in spurts. The passengers were all taking photos of each other's cars and their behaviour got quite annoying after five minutes.

The old guy was doing 52km/h over the limit - 122 in a 70 zone.

Got flashed by a camera, so police rocked up at his place and demanded the car for impound (28 days).

He'll get a six month licence suspension in court.

Shoulda had a laser jammer setup....

If anyone knows the driver of the Porsche then let me know.

I'd be more than happy to make some suggestions on car setup stuff that would prevent such a thing from happening again...

To a point some of us would be, we’re not all wowsers.

But you are correct, age does play a part here and some acts are tolerated where others are not.

He would have been torn a new one if he’d been driving that 911 at 30km/h under the speed limit.

I still wanna speak with the guy in person, and offer my support.

That poor bugger is facing a six month licence suspension.

With a Porsche that he won't be able to drive.

I have cleared space in my carport, in anticipation of being able to look after that car for him during his suspension.

It's the least I can do for him.

Stupid old fool.
His reaction times would not be up to it & it's not like he did it on an open road out in the sticks.
Could have T-boned someone at the intersection.
FWIW I don't have a problem with someone doing 180 in a 110 zone if the car & driver is up to it.

In that interview he makes some good points -ie I was not looking at the speedo, but at the road-ie that is what you should be doing-in the main part. And yes- I think I would rather drivers be driving 10-20 kph over the speed limit but paying full attention to what they are doing, than a driver driving at the speed limit but putting 80 - 98% of their attention on the speedo instead of focusing on the road.

But- and I am not a saint by any means, he was stretching it saying it was ok to go 180 kph through the intersection which is what he would have done in Germany or the USA, when that involved other traffic around and where it is reasonably foreseeable a pedestrian or another motorist could do something unexpected.

Doing 180 kph in a Porsche- like in a FGX XR8 -is nothing and "safe," relative to the conditions. Time and a place- time and place- this guy has the years to know that.

But jeez- pretty good for his age all up.
