Default Top Gear Under Review for Racial Slurs...

"THE BBC is investigating the culture of Top Gear after Jeremy Clarkson was given his final warning for using offensive language.

Danny Cohen, director of television, ordered an internal review of the hit motoring series' practices, following complaints about racism.

Co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May were also questioned, as was executive producer Andy Wilman.

The investigation is understood to be exploring whether people involved in Top Gear are afraid of speaking out against things they might find offensive, the Guardian reports.

Last month, TV watchdog Ofcom found that the Burma special had breached broadcasting rules in March by featuring a racial slur.

Clarkson sparked outrage when he looked at a bridge with a local Asian man walking over it and said: "There's a slope on it".

BBC producers brushed off the remark as "light-hearted wordplay" but apologised for the upset.

Clarkson, 54, also came under fire and nearly lost his job for mumbling a racist version of children's counting rhyme "Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe" in an unaired clip.

The presenter released a video apology assuring fans that he was "mortified" by any offence caused by his actions and begging for their forgiveness.

Recently, Clarkson named his black dog Didier Dogba after Ivory Coast footballer Didier Drogba, and in 2011 he said his TV's energy-saving setting made shows look like they were "presented by Lenny Henry in a cave".

Findings from the recent June report are being kept private and it is believed that only a couple of individuals have access to them.

The BBC declined to comment on the investigation. "

My comment : Haven't people got better things to do ??? Jeremy is funny but don't take him seriously...

It's the thin end of the wedge.

Where do you then draw the line?

just because it seems funny doesn't mean it's therefore o.k.

Why say it in the first place?

I don't understand why people are surprised by things Clarkson says...it's not like he's new to the scene or anything, he's been making these videos and off the cuff comments for years! People get offended too easily these days...

Yep, and its the childish antics and lack of political correctness is part of the shows appeal.

It's up to the editors/producers to present something that meets guidelines. To kerb the presenters personalities would just make for a boring show.

You'd have to wonder how Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell in Till Death Us Do Part) would get on in these days of Political Correctness.

(The minority groups would probably kill it before the first pilot show)

People are so sensitive and touchy. Cough *pussies*, everything is taken so seriously. Seriously people need to swallow some concrete and harden the **** up! They analyse everything these days. Jeremy is known to be a joker on the TV show and I'm sure he doesn't mean any harm to anyone. I'm sure he doesn't realise what he says sometimes can be taken completely in another direction.

Meh, ditch the BBC, start up their own site and start streaming or offering digital downloads, $50 to download the season in HD with no ads.

I'd be in like flynn.

Then they can be as bigoted as they want

If you want to annoy the minorities, sit on public transport and calmly be racist. You can feel the eyes staring daggers at you.

This is such utter **** it should not have made news. So many friggin pussies getting around now you cant even say hi to someone without them saying are you accusing me of being on drugs?

Speaking for myself here, so don't get all sensitive and offended and assume Im placing a generalization on anyone else.

Im asian, and I found that bridge & cave comment to be a crack up. Why would I bother to get all uppity and 'soft' over a comment like that? What's the point? Will it make me a better person? I find 'tongue in cheek' humour to be the best kind. It's when it become hate-filled that I have an issue with it. (again, this is me, and not based on anyone else)

I grew up with racial slurs everyday of my younger life. Sure it wasn't nice, but it made me tougher today than I ever was. It forced me to see who the insecure idiots are and I either I could laugh it off or jokingly throw something back at them. It also gave me strength in knowing who I would prefer to be friends with.

Not saying it is/isn't ok for others, but I swallowed whole shovels full of concrete to not let it get to me out of preference.

The choice is yours on how you want to deal with this kind of humor, (turn off the tv, change channels, get over it) but forcing others to conform to your over-sensitive bigoted view is not the way to do it either.

Well said.

As a fellow Asian, I too think that too many minority groups get offended over nothing. The moment you so much as mention a colour, you're labelled a racist.

Harden the f up, people!

Yes, this is a multicultural country, yes, we should embrace differences and be more tolerant ... but you know what? It works both ways.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't racism the hatred or un acceptance of a race other than your own? To make a joke in reference to a different race is a lot different to not mixing or socialising with someone because of the color of their skin.

At my work we make fun of "wogs" all the time, light hearted stuff like ending every sentence with a swear word etc. They give it back just as much and everyone is laughing and happy. I would hate if we had to stop doing it because they thought it was racism.

Best comment on peoples "rights" and their level of offence they take at someone else making a joke...

YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO BE OFFENDED BY SOMETHING YOU MAY SEE OR HEAR AS YOU GO ABOUT YOUR LIFE...

You have the right to complain to some extent, you have the right to turn off the channel, you have the right to object...but what you shouldn't have is the "right" to stop me seeing something that you personally do not like...you cannot expect the majority to be controlled by a small minority of whingers...

That's your problem, not mine...
