Default E85 in Perth

Well it's taken a few years, but finally it seems we will get E85 at the bowser here in Perth.

Big thanks to United for taking the plunge, I will burn as much as I can to repay you!

Daniel

What is the quality of it like? Is it as good/consistent as the stuff you get in drums?

Well I believe the unleaded is only 91 Ron whereas the Drum E85 is mixed with 98 Ron so there is a slight difference that equates to 1 octane point in effect.

However I see the tests carried out on United e85 in the east is consistently closer to 90% ethanol so if that's the case over here then it renders that 1 point almost ineffective.

Time will tell

We just got United e85 over here in the sticks Daniel, have no idea why... I went and got some the other day and it was a touch over 90% maybe 92.
Ive only been tuned for the caltex eFlex which sits around 74% so i have been tempted to to do a blend of the united e85 and there 98.... Just a matter of getting the blend right.

Seems quite a few United's are converting their 100 bowsers to E85 now... Will be interesting to see if it happens locally.

Well I saw the photo on FB of the united in Armadale having the pump installed and apparently the one in Leda is the same.

My guess is the stations that copped the e10/p100 will get it

the E85 blends with 91, 98 or any other gas doesn't tend to make a huge difference in power at the track. we have tested numerous blends with various gasolines, anything from 91, 98-octane, 105-octane and Q16 (116-octane) the main contributor to power/torque was the ethanol content itself, not what it's mixed with.

we ran quicker MPH on United E90, than a mix with E92 and Q16 race gas, however, the Q16 mix had more torque and ran a slightly better ET.

sometimes changing what it's mixed with and the ethanol % can make less power, colder fuels mean harder to burn sometimes the spark isn't up to the task.

Hahaha crap fuel... a forged engine with 25psi will pick up anywhere from 100-200rwhp on this!

Its also far lower in tailpipe emissions, runs cooler and burns cleaner to reduce carbon deposits... there is no downside provided you are correctly setup to use it.

Factor in the fact its cheaper per litre to offset the extra use and the ONLY downside is that you have to refuel more often.

If your car isnt set up to use it, it so easy:

Just dont use it

Hopefully it get more widely distributed. The P100 has been good to me, but e85 would make life so much easier for the proper bogans out there!

southlakes united on berrigan drive near the kwinana fwy has had it for a few months now.
I ran a tank through my NL v8 but decided against using it further due to the fact its hygroscopic and i work fifo. cant really say how the car ran for better or worse as i sold it a few weeks after i moved NOR.

good to see theres more range of fuels around these days. if i didnt work away i would probably look at using it more, mind you it wont be cheap for long, look at what happened with lpg in WA. The high prices means [theyre not so high now] that i get more bang for buck out of regular petrol in my BA RTV than i do with the gas.

It's $1.40 per litre in a drum in Vic (exchange drum) but that price doubles to land it here in WA due to DG freight costs

Well pay 1.30 at the bowser I reckon

It should be priced 20c below the unleaded price E85 mrghia.

The stuff your mate is using would be from Scotchers out at Wingfield from the pump.
Its more expensive but its a better blend.

I thought this subject would have raised it head on here. I can't wait to give this E85 a shot, it's a Pity that I fly back to work tomorrow (the day of the release) and at $1.41 Per/L it's considerably less then 98Ron. I'm hoping that a north of the river United fuel station will take E85 on, so I don't have to drive 40 mins to refuel.

I have some standard FG XR8 injectors (300cc which works out to be 35% extra) which I'm going to put in the AU 5L ute to compensate for the extra fuel required.

Cheers
Jay

For those who don't know, it opened today at 9am and is priced at $1.40 p/l, the batch was tested and came back at 80%

P.S I've been told that the Sucrogen E85 (orange drums) is bad for your cars because it clogs injectors due to the sugar in it? Not 100% sure on it but it's just what I've been told by a few guys who race in the LF Speed Event Series and are switching brands
