I've been looking for a good set of wheels for my XR6. I hate the standard alloys on the darker colour (velvet). So I've started looking at chrome alternatives and I've thought about doing the sacrificial.
I'm looking at getting a set of fairly rough typhoon wheels and getting them chrome plated Is it possible to do this? The only reason I'm really looking at it is because I'm not sure on the costs to get a set re-machined/re-clearcoated, because I'm a tight-*** and can't afford $1,400 for a good set just yet.

You can, but in the end it would be cheaper just to get them painted in a chrome effects paint.

If it was me, I'd go to a hardware store and get some paint stripper, a cotton buffing wheel and alloy polishing wax. Put the buffing wheel on a power drill and go at the rims one at a time and just polish them up to a mirror finish. Then you can go get them re clear coated if you want. Bushbasher

That's true, I have to agree with you there but a nice polished alloy can look quite good.
