But the Caprice is the most expensive car out of the whole lot, so you expect it to be better. Unfortunately, money is the prime concern with most US police forces.

What a rubbish article, the full LA County report is here:
http://www.lasdhq.org/sites/car-test/2011.pdf Drive obviously only looked at one part of the report and not the rest of it and the Ford Toreass PI and the 'Utility PI' didnt even get tested in all the segments Quote:

I wonder if Toby Hagan complained about the high driving position like he does about the fords all the time.
It looked like he actually had to duck his stupid boof head to clear the roof. |

The 6 litre V8 Caprice actually used the least in the test!! The 6 cylinder Impala came second. And ahead of the 6 cylinder Fords. |

Even if the article is skewed, it's good/great that an Aussie car can show the Yanks how it's done. Good on Holden!

Wow, reading the LA police report the Holden smashed the Ford. Pretty good for a platform half a decade old.

So an Aussie(ish) Holden just beat the US Ford?
What if an Aussie Ford was put up? Hmmm

ford lovers, dont stick up for the taurus cop car, it isnt even really a ford, it uses the volvo s80 chasis from 1999 (designed 1995) lol. its funny how people stick up for a name brand that just wants your money. what should be commended is australian produced cars doing well overseas. Ford australia could be doing that too, but they are pathetic at selling cars.

are completely clueless to the origins of vehicles and how it was developed into a completely new line of vehicles with no connection to Volvo at all. What is funny is how people come onto a Ford Forum and try to defend Holden exports that aren't selling well over seas and chide Ford for developing a great local Police car for their own market. Talk about hypocritical, the Falcon is a regional program that costs Ford a fraction of what the on again off again Zeta project has cost Holden and GMNA. I know someone who deals with police fleet sales in the USA, I can tell you Ford is more concerned with Charger than Caprice.... |

This is good news for Australian manufacturing. The Ford vehicles would not have been built here (in Aus) and the Holdens will be. So its good news if the police force over there start buying them.
I think this comment sums it up nicely Quote:

From that report The Caprice got a perfect 10 in only the 32 lap test while PI both FWD and AWD got perfect 10s in both the 32 lap test and pursuit course. Not too sure what drive are smoking.

Look at pages 95 and 96 for the Acceleration Evaluation. The Ecoboost 3.5 is actually faster than the 6.0 V8, albeit in a lighter car. I agree that the test results can be read either way, in favour of Ford or Holden so good news all round really.
The only thing you can't argue is the appaling jingoistic writing style of the article. Munners |

The video in the link just showed a try hard doing laps around a track and jibbering. The article itself didn't really reveal anything about the headline so it really is a nothing report. Another slow news day for drive I guess.

Read another article on CarAdvice and although their headline insinuated that the Holden 'had won key tests', looking through their results it is clear the Taurus outpointed the Holden convincingly.

Ford US were late on this after GM got the car in early. The Taurus has done well in the reports that I have seen, but the thing I got out of it is that Aussies still make some of the best RWD cars in the world given the small budgets we have. We know how good we are. GM have taken note and used this for many of their current products. Would be nice for Ford US to step up and admit that the Falcon RWD has a fit both locally and internationally. I know that the Falcon doesn't fit many of the criteria (especially interior size) but you hear many of the reports about US execs loving the way the Falcon rides and you think of what could/should have been.....

Had a bit of a read through the report. There are a few Ford variants in the tests including the old model and a base non ecoboost Interceptor so it makes it a bit confusing at times.
The ecoboost Interceptor is the one we want to see and it matches or beats the Caprice in all bar the braking distance test. Even acceleration and lap times it has the Caprice easily covered. Don't know what that article is on about. |

Caprice is a great car. We have the SIDI 3.6 as a chauffeur driven car, has done 50,000km in 8 months with no trouble. Apart from being a very good looking car, it's fantastic to drive, even in V6 form. It's very different to what they send to the States to become a police car obviously, but the basics are the same.
Only complaint is that the interiors don't seem to wear to well if not looked after with a lot of care. |

Dads Caprice is great to drive, the 6sp Auto isn't as nice, but it is still a great car to drive!
V8 does add to it's appeal..but when dad is around it never compares to my G6ET!!! EVER!!!

I think that the crux of the article if not a Ford/Holden thing but highlighting the fact that an Aussie product is better suited for the Yanks then the current US made products. Did the results work on fully kitted cars? My understanding that a fully fitted car weighs a bucketload more due to the many upgrades required (and there are heaps). Having said that Ford have still done a good job getting a RWD car together in such a short time. Because when the tenders first came out Ford had nothing to match the GM product. Still comes back to what would/could have been if we still had the Fairlane or the US had been a bit more forward thinking. They knew a replacement was due, they must know we make the best RWD in their fleet for the money, and yet they left it so late. I say good on GM and good on Aussie excellence. Just a pity that it didn't have a blue oval on the front.

The article says the test was for the LAPD....
This isnt an order, just a competition. All police forces in the states are pretty independant of each other. There is still hope to secure the other 1000 or so Police dept over there!
