Default Strange Google maps find!

Was just flicking up the WA coast tonight on google maps and found this.. seems like it's 40ish metres long, about 1km off the coast.

Someone at google playing funny buggers or someone know why there's a sunken jet off the WA coast?

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=-31...7&z=19&iwloc=A

If it was submerged, I can assure you 1klm off the coast you wouldn't be seeing it, no matter how good your satellite imagery is...

Maybe the image taken of that area actually caught an image of the jet flying over.

I drove past the Google Maps Car the other week.
It was here in Warrnambool driving around so as it was coming out of my street i drove in front of it.
Will be interesting to see if the Patrol makes it into the update or not.

If you zoom out a bit, there is a speed boat to the bottom right as well.

a plane just wouldn't happen to be flying lower than a satellite right as it took a photo now would it

It's Richard Bransons latest idea for people that want to get there in a hurry but are afraid of flying.

If you move the view down south a bit you can see a large treadmill, which it most likely took off from.

Doesn't look like it's above the water - it has a distinctly blue cast to it, as if it was underwater.... could be an in-joke, but then why do it? No reflected light off the wings or fuselage either.

There are 16 aircraft sunk off the coast of Broome in WA, but that's a long way north of this sighting. There are also four sunken PBY Catalina Flying Boats off Rottnest Island in the years 1945-1946, but the outlines of this aircraft 'aint a Catalina by a long chalk!

Can't explain this one. Google comes up with nothing

.... and the mystery deepens....

There is also one of these 'mystery planes' in the middle of the Simpson Desert!
http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/200...31_ntnews.html

AND here's one off Hawai'i...
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=2...04957&t=h&z=18

And if you compare the image off the WA Coast with these Google Earth captures of other aircraft, you'll notice no shadows, and no definition in the WA one.
http://www.gearthhacks.com/dlcatn24/...-in-flight.htm

And some more commercial aircraft...
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...&t=h&z=18&om=1

If you look at the size of the WA one, it's tiny! Compare it to one of the homes nearby...something odd going on here!

Probably just a shadow from when they updated the maps and layered the new image over the old. If you look just above the plane it appears again even fainter, just its outline.

Here's a screengrab of the Google Maps page.

In the desert could be a remake of the flight of the Pheonix and the one in the water could be series two of Lost

Hi The plane in the water is a reflection of the plane taking the photo, if you google the copyright name at the bottom of the photo you will find that the company also does aerial photos as well as satellite images. Cheers MD
