Ford had the guts to build a go-fast pre-runner-style factory pickup for less than $40,000
There’s nothing else like the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, and there likely may never be. It features a unique Fox Racing long-travel suspension that has a full 11inches of travel in the front dampers to absorb the impact from jumps – jumps! – made in the desert at speeds up to 100 mph. Its six-speed transmission is specially tuned with an off-road mode, and there’s a rear locking differential that works in two-wheel or four-wheel drive at speeds up to 66 mph. When other truck manufacturers mumble to themselves about the truck they wish they had in their lineup, Raptor is usually the first word that comes from their lips. What about it FPV ????

Ford entered this truck into the Baja 1,000 race in 2008, the most notorious off road race in North America, in order to test out and work the bugs out of the truck while still developing it. Ford was merely hoping to finish the race (only 4 trucks in their class did) but instead they accidently took third place in their class in the race with their "work in progress" truck.

Really really nice, but looks like it would handle like a boat on the road. Imagine taking that thing through a bend!

Do ford accept kidneys as trade-ins? That thing would be awesome, I'd kill to have one, be able to get into offroading. Cool

At $40grand USD you could probably have 1 imported and rhd converted for less than $100grand.

Ford Aus wont import these and even if they did, FPV said after the F6X that their lineup is Falcon only...
Just look at how FPV and HSV cars have sold minimally and forgotten: FPV F6X HSV Astra SV1800 HSV VXR HSV Jackaroo The market just isnt there for a tuned "other" model.... espesially when they price the hell out of a tuned model for minimal gain...

I'm seriously in love with this thing, between this and the Local Motors Rally Fighter I'm getting urges to head out and set some records on the Birdsville track. Someone needs to throw Clarkson the keys to this thing too... :
Then when it comes to thinking about our chances of getting this imported properly through Ford, I think of a beancounter sitting there saying "Performance off roader? Yeah that was a hit for TRD with the Hilux" :

I wouldn't even begin to think so, maybe it's my cynicism coming through but I'm sure there are plenty of decision makers who would compare them.

The TRD Hilux and SVT Raptor are world's apart.
The Hilux is a street truck that is slightly adapted to go off-road. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzvEaPg4AqA The Raptor is an off-road truck adapted to drive on the road. It has a 7 inch wider track than all other F-150's for off-road stability. It comes from the factory with an aftermarket, custom engineered off-road racing suspension with 11 inches of travel in the front and 12 inches of travel in the back. It also has Hill Descent Assist that enables the truck to be driven down a 60 degree hill with the driver only needing to control the steering. It goes up and down hills that the Hilux could not, and can speed over uneven and bumpy terrain that would tear a Hilux apart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ngvpnes1UFg I saw a video of a TRD Hilux speeding on a dirt road, but not one that was bumpy or would cause it to get airborn. Well, it was on terrain like that, but going very slowly. Steve

Ok, so I probably wasn't conveying my thoughts clearly enough before on what I said, I personally can see the difference between the Hilux and the Raptor, I just was having a little dig at the guys who would ultimately rubber stamp such a thing coming over here.
I've read the reviews and seen the videos of the Raptor flying across the desert and I know that there is nothing that comes close out of the factory except maybe the Rally Fighter though I'd loathe to call that a production car just yet.

LethalLeigh, I understood your post. I was just elaborating for any of those of whom you speak that might have wanted to take the stand on behalf of the TRD Hilux. :
I don't know if the connection is made in Australia too, but when we see TRD on a Toyota here we can't get past the pronounciation of "terd" (misspelled for posting considerations) for the vehicle, signifying a piece of crap. FPV8U, no need to can FPV. They are doing some great stuff, and the logo is cool as heck. : Steve

I think Ford would sooner merge SVT with TeamRS than FPV, if a situation like that were ever to arise.

Though I would never buy one as I have no need for it... prefer my cars to my 4WD's. This is proof that if you build it he will come.
Build or make an interesting product that then interests the masses and they will buy it. It is hardly rocket science. Then back it up with a warranty of some description and in this cars case it will have some things left out and others added and you have a win. A massive win. How many 4WD's do you see with off road tyres and aftermarket suspension etc on Australian roads? Heaps. Offer this at just under maybe 60k on the road new with a turbo diesel and the Hilux crowd will start wearing blue, top of the range could reach maybe mid 70's and it would still sell even at that price. Still cheaper than a 100 series Landcruiser by about 30k... and it does everything it does but better. It doesn't need a history here to sell it... start history. It needs to be an FPV too... but the 'business case' wouldn't work for the bean counters sadly. We are now so close to the US dollar this surely couldn't be that hard to bring here. You'd have every plumber and his dog in one.
