Default tips on justifying car rebuild costs to the mrs vol1

so far my only real strategy is telling her she should splurge on a new outfit then make her feel guilty for spending all that money on herself. i then suggest we go for a drive........right past american auto parts.
you guys got any good ones?

Tell her the Government has notified you to upgrade the car as it doesnt comply with current power/emmision laws. Not doing this will result in jail.

?????
I must be missing the point of this thread.....what do you mean Justify the cost?

How would she know??? She should be too busy cooking dinner, doing the dishes and cleaning the house to notice anything happening to the car.....if she notices anyway, it might be time to get her a second job, as she has too much time on her hands....

just go ahead and do whatever it is you want to do. asking for forgiveness is a lot easier than asking for permission.

Write a list down of what she spends a year on cosmetics, beauty products and clothing as well as shoes.

Just make it a same same kinda deal. Either she will curb her spending, or you will have that blower kit you've been eyeing off lol.

That's a pretty solid strategy, I have used a variation of that for years.

I always just broke something badly that it needed to be fixed and while fixing it, its only a tad more to make it better and faster.

Mate i have been married for 10 years in 2011 and been with her for 12 years hardly newly weds. She is just good value earlier in the great scheme of things she used to put on the overalls and be right beside me in the grease scun knuckles and all now she is a proud mum of 2 and has a fairly successful home buisness and i think its just comes from mutual respect and love and support we have for each other and thats all we need to succeed in our life

you are just trying to stimulate the economy. if you dont spend money on your car then the automotive aftermaket will colapse and hundreds of fellow aussies will be put out of work.
imagine the guilt of being reponsible for those starving kids when the guys have no jobs.

its your civil duty to share the wealth.

I never have a problem justifying anything to my wife, we've been together for 10 years and she still maintains "you deal with the money, you know if we can afford it". Problem is that I know what she spends on clothes/hair/makeup/gym and I shudder every time I want to splurge on a toy. But to be fair, I'd rather she looked good than the car - I like my toys but I love being one even more ;)

My conservations around financies on the truck are usually pretty short...

Mrs: "How much are you spending on that truck?"
Me: "Less than the last horse cost"

walk in, stare into her eyes and say:

"darling... i have congracted hep C..."
watch her get upset, then say,

"only kidding!!! but i did spend $x,xxx on the car, but the main thing is i'm gonna be ok"
give her a kiss on the forehead and go watch TV.

You could just do what a mate and I are doing at the moment and build a car for the Camp Quality esCarpade and get some sponsors on board to supply the $'s.
In saying that this exersise has allready cost me an arm and a leg and will continue to do so for a while yet, but not to the extent of if I were to buy all the parts myself. And on a + side we get to bring smiles to the faces of children with cancer and hope to raise a minimum of $20000 for Camp Quality.
So everyone wins :

reminds me of a one of my mates several years ago.

he came home with a new honda CR500 to add to his colection of motor bikes.

wife wasnt happy so she comes home with tickets for a pacific island cruise ( if you can spend our cash , so can i kind of thing).

mate was laughing ... he ended with a new bike and a cruise.
