Default Clarkson doesn't care about Australian automotive industry

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/entertain...-aussie-spirit

Quote:
British Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson is no less outspoken down under, mouthing off about Kevin Rudd, Germaine Greer, cricket ... and more.
Clarkson and co-star Richard Hammond have arrived in Sydney to host Top Gear Live - a stage version of their mega hit TV motoring show - which runs from February 5-8.
Fronting the media on Wednesday with Top Gear Australia presenter Steve Pizzati, Clarkson wasted no time offering his opinion on everything and anything.
After spiders, crocodiles, sharks and box jellyfish, the 48-year-old turned his attention to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and his Tuesday night national address on the economic crisis.
"It's the first time I've ever seen a world leader admit we really are in deep ," Clarkson said.
"He genuinely looked terrified. The poor man, he's actually seen the books.
"(In the UK) we've got this one-eyed Scottish idiot, he keeps telling us everything's fine and he's saved the world and we know he's lying, but he's smooth at telling us.
"Whereas old Kevin last night he really did look frightened."
Clarkson dismissed cricket as a game invented by people who didn't have enough to do, and revealed a secret crush on Aussie feminist Germaine Greer, who lives in London.
"Germaine, she's a good looking woman," he enthused.
Clarkson labelled Hammond a coward for quitting smoking, and blamed London's recent snowfall on "too many green people in the world and they aren't buying enough Range Rovers".
When asked a serious question about the state of the Australian automotive industry, he admitted he didn't care.
Clarkson's humour and the ribbing between the hosts is an integral part of Top Gear's appeal.
More than 82,000 tickets have been sold to the 10 Top Gear Live shows at Sydney's Acer Arena, and Events NSW have announced Sydney has secured the live spectacular until at least 2011.
Clarkson said fans of the British TV show could expect more of the same in the stage version.
"There's a lot of cars about, a lot of smoke, noise, bangs, and The Stig's here obviously," he said.
"It's just three men cocking about and falling over."
One missing ingredient is third host James May, who didn't make the trip to Australia and will be replaced by Pizzati for the shows.
"James doesn't do abroad, he gets a funny tummy if he goes to Fulham, Calais nearly kills him, Australia not a chance," Clarkson said.
Hammond and Clarkson said they were fans of the "brilliant" Top Gear Australia which launched on SBS last year, and waved off claims that it was inferior to their original.
"This is Australia, it's all in black and white," Clarkson joked.
"Ours is all in colour and everything."

It's funny reading his quotes as you can picture his voice saying them. To me the biggest appeal is him and his way of speaking.

The bloke who did the impression of him a couple of weeks ago was brilliant!

Yes I read that with him saying it. He is a very clever bloke, I like his non PC and when asked the question about the Aus car industry I wouldn't expect him to say anything else.

I am sure he wasn't even serious when he said

Probably has something to do with this:

Good to see that a major UK newspaper is on top of their game - there is a slight difference between Clarkson, Hammond & May having resigned their contracts and having re-signed them... (it's the caption of the second photo)

I'm not surprised he doesn't care about our car industry, after all he lives on the other side of the globe, and has no personal stake in it. I doubt he's even driven a late model Falcon. After all why would anybody expect any different. If he didn't say these things people would more likely be dissapointed, He is as much a comedian as he is a journalist.

I doubt he has, but he has tested the Vauxhall VXR8 (UK HSV Clubsport/GTS) and likes it.

Yes he sure does like it, and I honestly think if he drove an F6 or G6ET, he would like it moreso, as he usually does like Fords a lot more than Vauxhalls.

I will admit I can't wait for Clarkson to hopefully drive a G6ET and give a frank, honest assessment.

That's the thing I noticed when I read that today. I even said to my wife, it's amazing you can just imagine how he would have said that. That's 90% of his charm, the way he says things

Hang on a minute, didn't they just recently do a special in the US with James May, so either he's snubbing us or he's been axed from the show, either way he's (Clarkson) obviously lying.

Mate settle down a bit, he hasn't been axed to the show. Yes he has been to the US with the show, at least twice from memory, as well as Africa, Japan and Vietnam. You would probably find he has some sort of contractual commitment to something else that stops him from coming out here for such a long period, or any other number of plausible explanations.

I can't imagine why he would care about the Australian automotive industry...? Our performance cars aren't a patch on the dozens of exotics he gets to play with every season and our market combined would probably account for the total amount of Fiat Panda sales in the UK per year.

That's not my recollection if you're talking about the test drive where it called him a poof when he turned off the traction control...?

He loved how chuckable it was.

Someone hasn't watched midday free to air TV before, if you're home sick from schoo/work, don't watch it, it only makes you worse.

I know he was testing a BMW X6 twin turbo V8 today around the harbour bridge according to my client that prepped the car for him.

Nobody takes JC seriously, he is a TV presenter, comedian and average driver, but great fun to watch.
