Hi all,
I just wanted to share a little story with you all regarding the antics of a young P plater that I witnessed on Sunday in Adelaide. I was minding my own business driving north along South Road just past the Regency TAFE College when I glanced in my rear view mirror and spotted a red BA Falcon approaching from behind at VERY high speed. My immediate thoughts were that there was no way this guy was going to be able to slow down before he hit me so I instinctively accelerated (to get ahead of the car in the lane to my left) and changed into the left lane. The falcon screamed past me a split second later and right on his tail was some other little jap car. These two idiots (both wearing P plates) were not stopping for anyone and were obviously racing or chasing each other. I wasn't able to get their rego details as it all happened so quick and I could see them up ahead weaving in and out of traffic still racing each other. This pair of clowns were driving at extremely high speeds (120+) and were very dangerous to other drivers. Anyway, they got stuck at the traffic lights on Grand Junction Road/South Road intersection but they were about 10 cars ahead of me so I still couldn't get their rego details. When the lights turned green they once again took off and weaved around the rest of the traffic until they had a free run and accelerated out of sight once again. The story pretty much continues on the same for the next 5-10kms. I would catch up to them when they got stuck in slower moving traffic (albeit still a fair way behind) and once they had bullied the other drivers out of the way they would accelerate out of sight. To cut a long story short I eventually spotted the falcon stopped at a set of light on Salisbury Highway (just after the Port Wakefield Rd overpass) and arrived at the set of lights to witness the Falcon driver take off and smoke it up as he turned right. The next chain of events proved to me that karma certainly does exist. The young driver floored it around the corner and got it sideways, he over corrected and got it sideways the other way. He then overcorrected once again and the rear of the falcon swung out to the left, mounted the gutter, took out a couple of signs posts and they collected a whopping big light post which was knocked to the ground. I stopped along with a few other drivers and checked on the driver. He was unhurt although a little shaken. His Falcon was an absolute write off though. The rear left quarter was completely destroyed from rear door to bumper, the rear screen smashed, the diff ripped from it's mount, bumper ripped off and major body damage to the c pillars etc. While I felt bad for the young guy trashing his car I can only say that he got exactly what he deserved. It also could have been much worse. This guys was driving extremely fast and dangerously and in doing so put my life and those of numerous other motorists at risk. I had fully intended to follow this young guy to his house and get his details and make an official complaint. I wouldn't normally do this but this was an extreme case of dangerous driving and I was mighty ****ed about it. Anyway, I called the police and when they attended the accident .I told them the full story resulting in several more charges being added to the list (he didn't tell the truth about how the accident occured). I have also been contacted by the police to make a full statement of the events leading up to the accident and they plan to press other charges. So if you are driving like an idiot just remember that not everyone will put up with your antics and will stand up and make sure you get your day in court. You may get lucky too and only write your car off and not kill someone. This young fellow got off much lighter than what could have possibly happened. Thats my rant. Some of you may disagree with my actions, but next time some idiot does something stupid on the road that puts you at risk maybe you should think about making a stand and getting these idiots off the road. I think the young fellows father was going to kick him senseless too when he got him home after seeing his reaction at the damage when he arrived on the scene. Sorry - this is not meant to be a lecture but after reading through my post it certainly sounds like one. :-) Last edited by XBCoupeGuy; 24-07-2007 at 10:06 PM. |

That's a fair call, if he is going to learn the hard way it's best he only hurts his own car and nothing else.

Did the falcon belong to him or his parents?
Gee... I've always wondered why insurance for under 25s is so high... lol. |

Did the falcon beat the jap car? nah just joking with ya. when I read the first line I started to worry because I was driving my mums car(a BA) on saturday, but then I realised I don't have P plates (P2'er). lol
Yeah there are some crazy drivers out there. I don't think I have been on main north road lately and not had a car screaming past me. Also my house is about a street back from main north road and I can't keep my window open at night. all I hear is cars and bikes on full throttle, drives me crazy, not to mention trucks exhaust brakes. |

would insurance pay up for something like that. I got into something similar last year. But I wasnt doing a burnout, nor was I racing. I just went around a corner and due to the water on the road from someones sprinklers, very bald tyres and me giving it a little to much throttle. My BA slipped at the back and I over corrected and went up a curb.
I didnt think insurance was going to pay because of my tyres being very bald, but they did. For that I count myself very lucky

Good work, i would have done the same, except...
Slapped him in the head and said "serves you right" I have no problem "dobbing" in an extreme case, Take springnats last year for example, I was waiting to do a U-turn and a local yokel walks out onto the road with a bucket and pours 5L of motor oil onto the right U-turn lane. Then he sits on the median to watch people (unaware of the oil) get sideways. I rang the cops, and 2 minutes later there was highway patrol blocking it off... Personally, i dont care who does dumb stuff like in the topic, but at least in the right place where you cant hurt anyone else... My 2c

My brother has witnessed an extreme case of this where someone got killed. My bro used to be a manager of a pizza store. One night outside the pizza shop, some d*heads come and pour some oil on the road and then get in there car and do a burnout. Then sped off. This was at some traffic lights. 30 seconds later a bike go's to turn left at the traffic light, slips over and slides into traffic coming the other way. The guy on the bike was killed and the coppers never found the bastards who put the oil on the road

There's some knobs on the road, and they seem to be even dumber in pairs. My mum was on the way home from work a couple months back now and two 'imports' as all she could describe them as boxed her in, in moving traffic. One went in front of her and slowed a little whilst the other sat with their bonnet at the C pillar in the right hand lane. Whenever she tried to brake to get out, they would too. They then slowed down heaps to about 50k (on a 80k main road) before the one at her c pillar went in behind her real close and she squeezed out into the right hand lane. Not only was it dangerous and plain stupid, it scared the crap out of mum as well.

you did the right thing XBCoupeGuy. i've only ever dobbed someone in once and i don't feel bad about it at all. it was the right thing to do. sometimes you just get to witness something you have never seen in your life that is so shocking that you feel obligated to try and stop it somehow. people that show a total disregard for other road users need a very strong lesson in life.

And another one i witnessed, was a guy in an EB XR, going sideways around a blind, sweeping bend that nearly sideswiped me. It was the middle of the day and ****ing rain, i was going to call my mates dad (local senior sargeant) the next day, but that car was stolen that night.
Definately Karma! I saw him about a week later chatting to some mates of mine and gave him an earful about how he deserved it and if he had of hit my car that day when i had my dad and nan in the car, that he would not have the legs to drive again. Havent seen him since.

YOu did the right thing.
That kid will learn a lot from that experience. a) Don't speed b) You aren't invincible c) Don't tell lies. I hope his license gets torn up for a couple of years. He could use some bikeriding to clear his clearly fogged and delirious mind. |

im guessing insurance wont cover him thanks to your statement.
Good work There is a line where you decide if its worthy to dob someone in, this was a case of you did the right thing. someone chips/spins the wheels away from the lights i dont even flinch, but if they behaved in the manner you saw this guy i would consider it. |

You did the right thing (giving a statement to the cops)....though on the other hand I wouldn't have followed him home as you were planning lol.

Similar thing happpened to me on the M5 one evening, except it was three idiots in a VL commodore with P plates tailgating, flashing lights and then abusing everyone once they got past. In my case they swerved and almost ran me off the road and when I alerted him his mate threw a water bottle at the car. So, I decided to ring the police and gave them the rego.
As I continued on past the tollbooths I saw the same VL commodore all smashed in the front end sitting by the side of the motorway after running up the back of a magna. The little shacka driver was giving the older bloke a hard time even though the shacka hit him. So I pulled over where I could, reversed up to the accident on the shoulder and got out. Phone in hand and still talking to the police I informed them of what they were doing including harassing the guy they ran into who appeared to be elderly. They asked for the location and said they would send a car. Sure enough, the biggest bogan complete with a Jim Beam t-shirt and tracksuit pants was the driver. He asked me, "who the **** are you?". I replied;"I'm the a@@hole in that black Mercedes that you swerved to hit near Fairford road. You hit this guy, leave him alone". Anyway, they tried to restart the VL but it wasn't going to go anywhere, then this guys mates ran off. Sure enough, within 5 minutes the cops turned up and arrested the guy for assault, attempting to leave the scene of the accident and a couple of other things. Funny how this tough guy was reduced to tears when they put him in the back. Long story short, they rounded up the other 2 but the old bloke wasn't game to have them charged, so I made a statement and they charged them with assault; that I felt threatened and intimidated by them. The officer taking the statement laughed at that. Anyway, uninsured car and 3 housing commission shacka's charged later, I had to attend court to my confirm my statement and surprise surprise, they three little twits failed to turn up. As the say in the vernacular of shack, NOICE.

I got my restricted private pilots licence when I was 16 years old, before I was legally allowed to get my L plates. In hindsight I'm glad I did because it taught me to respect the machinery I was using; how something which was giving me pleasure could easily give me instant death.
When I hit the roads I was amazed at the risks people constantly took and it has only gotten worse with the increased population in cities. Far too many people take stupid risks such as the ones outlined by Debzilla; luckily nobody was killed. As someone who spends a lot of time behind the yolk/wheel, just stay away from these idiots because they either have a death wish or are incredibly stupid. Either way, they're biding their time until it all comes apart - usually in a catastrophic way. That's when the platitudes will come out from the mother "Oh he was such a good boy, never upset anybody". Translation, he was a @@@@ from birth, never did what he was told and was as dumb as a sack full of hammers. He has gotten numerous girls pregnant and has a police record a mile long. Goddamn shackas!

As you know, aircraft are designed for optimum climb, cruise and decent speeds. They can and do go faster especially on decent. These are pre-determined speed limits set by the manufacturer and you are judged (amongst other skills) on how well you can hold and maintain these speeds, especially on final approach. The closer you fly to these speed limits, the more skilled you are considered. That say's something doesn't it! In flying, while good airman ship is a result of good training and good attitude, poor airman ship is frowned upon and never tolerated. You would risk death and injury, and at the very very least, you would be putting your reputation and character on the line to be harshly judged amongst your peers. We do not seem to universally share this view on the road. If people were trained to drive and understood the risks in much the same way, you would not see so much stupidity out there. |
