I got one about 8-9 years ago, it was called a Forest Operator License then
It was done through Northern Melbourne TAFE, basically a few theory lessons then you go out and chop some trees down and make seats and statues out of a few stumps then they send you a little card & certificate. Not sure if you have to renew it every few years now or not I'm sure a SE tafe would do it, or maybe closer to gippsland somewhere |

I was hoping for something a little more specific than that Brett :
I've been searching for the last hour or so for "Chainsaw Operations" and found quite a large number of courses... but they are mainly in NSW, SA, WA or QLD Chainsaw Ops not much to be found in VIC ... let alone SE Vic which is why I'm now asking here this is all I've found so far NMIT Chisholm Tafe which should do the job... But I'm hoping on someone is SE Vic might know of a local course that could be taken at short notice btw... its The Poly Welding course instructor... that suggested this (apparently some of the bigger pipes are cut with said chainsaw) |

Not sure if the rules are uniform across the states but I got a few of my guys their tickets by having a previously ticketed guy (also one of my employees) give a few lessons.
If this is still possible then perhaps contact a few tree loppers/fellers and ask if they can help you get your ticket and how much for a few lessons...Hope that's of some help. Back in the day, I was a sawyer, and I was just given a 1.2mtr chainsaw and told to "go for it"...ahhh, the good ol' days.... (my God I'm old!)

ring your local TAFE.
if they dont do it, they should be able to point you in the right direction. |

I'd be asking the person who recommended you to get the ticket, where to go?
But apart from that sorry can't help. Not in Vic anyway. |

My brother has the ticket that you mentioned. I'll ask him where he did the course and reply back to you.

wodonga + wangaratta TAFE both do 'em (NE vic though).
You will only require the level 1 ticket (crosscut only NOT falling). I think off memory this is a 2 day course. If i were you I would ring around some TAFES in the gippsland area theres plenty of logging there, maybe ring DSE or Hancock pine plantations or a logging company and ask 'em where they get 'em done |
