I would do the following.
Up the RAM to 2G Check the response time of the LCD. 4ms would be good. X800 GFX is old Get XP Pro Whats the HD brand? I trust Seagate personally.

Or X1900 if you want to go with ATi. I think nVidia has the crown at the moment but its been passed between the 2 for the past couple of years. However, nVidia has better driver support.

RAID = Redundant Array of Independent Disks.
Basically there are 2 modes. One is where both drives have the same information. So when a drive fails you still have your data. The other is stripping where the data is spread onto both drives. Speeds up data access and such but if one of the drives goes kaput, you lose everything.

The HDs have to have the same capacity. The manual will show the correct connections. I cant remember how to do it off the top of my head for a SATA. I believe the setup will also be in the BIOS if the mobo supports RAID.

The question has to be though "good for what" As a uniprocessor AMD 800Mhz Duron would be good for surfing the net, email and word processing. The quoted system would be overkill for said task.
eg: both a focus and a gt can do 100km/h on the open freeway. They do 100km/h at exactly the same speed. However the GT can do oh so much more than the Focus can. But it all comes down to what you need it for.

The motherboard you need a server mother board, something like Tyan. Also if you use a server motherboard you need ECC not DDR.

Where did this Tyan server motherboard stuff come from? Not needed unless your running two individual processors.
Your current system should be fine at playing games and burning Cd's etc. You may find that your system just has a small hardware failure such as faulty RAM. Might be better to spend $200 fixing this problem, and then buy this same specd system in 12 months for like $1500 - $2000. Save some money!

they had the Dual core from Intel, And the big heavy hitters P4's 3.8gh/z and the AMD's FX which they overclocked to 3 gh/z for a comparison, They had a AMD X2 4800. The X2 cleaned house in just about all the test done, I want one. But now there is a X2 FX 64. With dual core it sounds fantastic 2 2.4gh/z CPU's in 1. What OS are you running now what are some other specs on your current PC? I bought myself a AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2500 CPU and doubled up my ram, Maxed the speed @ 2.5gh/z, And with only 512mb ram dual channel you cant tell it's only running a G-Force 4 card. But for $2500 you might even consider checking out ebay for some deal.
