There is a grey one that usually sits just before one of the bridges on the old Geelong road into Melbourne as well.

Another weird one I saw, didnt think they existed, didnt get a photo :( was an unmarked sports bike. It was a sports bike, no police marking at all, just small LED's on the indicators and a little siren.

Why is it police vehicles can get away with illegal tints and all that to "blend in".
I have seen some police cars in Brisbane in my short stay there that would scrape if it ran over a small insect. How is it they can get away with these "unsafe" vehicles. After all, isn't that the reason we aren't allowed to have extremely low cars and mirror-like tint? |

If you're talking about the glass on the side of the canopy, thats not relevant. If you're talking about the rear glass of the canopy, thats also not relevant (plenty of vans/utes out there with no glass on the rear - how do they see out the back? Mirrors) If you're talking about the door windows, you can see thru them. And you can actually see the fluro vest in the photo you've provided. The car has black trim, so it's logical that you wouldn't see much thru the window anyway. Hire cars and Limos can have BLACK windows - and as far as I know the dark tint is only relevant to the front windows of a car (you'll see many european SUVs with two shades of tint - the rear being much darker). And so long as the windscreen isn't tinted (which it isn't) then I'm very confused about what you're upset about?

yup
we pulled up right next to it , it always sits around the corner form our place. misses was driving (id had 3 or 4 beers) and we nipped down the deli pulled up could not even see inside the car to see if anyone was sitting inside (obviously was) thats how dark the tint was i put the window down and asked what percentage that illegal tint was. (misses was a car tinter for over a decade) no movement from the car and in fact i have not seen it for quite some time

I've seen that un marked police bike around. He wears a blue jacket with blue police emblem on the sleeve. Hard to see unless you are up close. My daughter is in child care in the same building as police command, so I see all kinds of things.
Tricky aren't they? Is that along Somerville road?

i think you will find that part of the reason dark tint is illegal is not only based on being able as a driver to see clearly but also for police when they approach a vehicle for a traffic stop they can see into the vehicle & respond as they need to..ie.. no suprises of a window winding down & a sawn off starring at them!

My old EB had very dark tint and at night it was very hard to see out the side windows at roundabouts etc. if they weren't well lit. |

Trying to figure out who the highway patrol people were in their earlier lives. The big schoolyard bully, or the little lanky kid that got thrown around and bullied and wants to get back at the world.

That SS, is a bit of a give-away............. must be the only one, still at stock height and with stock wheels.
Add ultra lows, 20's, and a 3 tonne tow hitch on the back, then they'd be cooking. edit - it just needs the springs out of those superlow marked VE divvy vans getting around.

Oh, and make sure you send all your local Highway patrol offices a letter letting them know that you'd prefer they not attend any accident you, or your loved ones are involved in. After all, their "Sole Duty" is to collect tax. Also, don't bother knocking on your door at 2am to let you know one of your loved one's is dead, an SMS ("Hi, Dad's Dead, Lol!") will do just fine. Also, no need to do any random breath testing in your area. You're more than happy to die at the hands of a drink driver. Of course, when you do, lets make sure not to bother the HWP and get the "real" coppers to come out and scrape you off the road. Best keep them collecting taxes. Also, hate to burst your bubble, but most of the larger stations general duties coppers will be rostered on to traffic shifts as well, with lots qualified to use LASER and/or RADAR. They'll also do these shifts in marked, or sometimes unmarked cars..... so best you don't call 000 for the police at all. Rather than help you out, they'd much prefer to be out collecting taxes. Oh, and in the interests of accuracy and not proliferating BS on these forums. In Victoria - all standard HWP shifts involve all members to be in full uniform, in either the marked, semi-marked or unmarked('Q') vehicles - incl. bikes. The only time HWP wear plain clothes is when they are doing a specific task or operation - such as sitting off drags or gaining intel on prolific repeat offenders. It is also extremely common for other, unformed, departments to use unmarked cars as well - they aren't just the domain of HWP. Some stations will have uniform general duties shifts performed from unmarked cars, as well as transit police, sexual offences and other units. Obviously, CIU (detectives) use them as a matter of course, as well as being in plain clothes. |

I am not a cop, but it is rather ridiculous that people like yourself consider HWP to be 'less' than other cops. Just who is it do you think that often attends car accidents etc first, before the GD guys arrive? Seriously, think before you post.
