GIVE DAD SOME MUSCLE FOR FATHERS' DAY
This Fathers' Day take Dad somewhere he really wants to go - the annual Muscle Car Masters on Sunday September 4 at Sydney's Eastern Creek International Raceway.

Muscle Car Masters is a retro-themed celebration of Australia's muscle car heritage and a tribute to the drivers that raced them.

On-track action features racing for historic touring cars from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Jaguar, Lotus, Cortina and Ford Mustang are the front-runners amongst the 60s set.

The 70s group hots up with Monaro, Camaro, Valiant Charger, Torana XU1, Torana L34 and A9X, plus a host of Falcon GTs.

Many cars from the 80s came from international manufacturers, including Mazda, BMW and Volvo, and raced alongside local Commodores and Falcons.

Hi-tech Nissan Skyline and Nissan GTR are the stand-out cars from the 90s with newer Commodore and Falcon models turning out in large numbers.

The Group C and Group A category caters for cars that competed last century in the Australian Touring Car Championship and the Bathurst 1000.

These cars still display their original liveries, looking and sounding exactly as they did back in the day.

Many of the Group C and Group A cars were driven by competitors that went on to become motorsport stars and household names.

Touring car legend Glenn Seton is turning out in the popular Touring Car Masters division, driving an XB Falcon hardtop engineered by Ford Performance Racing.

Seton says that it is the atmosphere and history on display at the Muscle Car Masters that keeps him coming back year after year.

"The memories I have as a child are of Geoghegan, Brock, Moffat and Mustangs, Toranas and Falcons - where touring car racing began.

"I'm also proud that my Dad, Barry, won the 1965 Bathurst 1000," Seton said.

"I often feel that we have lost the 'sport' in motorsport in the modern era with it becoming more commercialised.

"Muscle Car Masters showcases how it used to be, when race cars had poor brakes and slid sideways through corners. That's very appealing to me, and obviously to the punters too."

Sports Sedans are also on the program with drivers competing for the Tony Edmondson Trophy. Edmondson, a multiple national sports sedan champion, will present the trophy.

In addition to the huge racing fields a number of hot lap display sessions will be conducted for genuine race cars that are too precious to race.

Treasures in this category include Dick Johnson's 1981 Bathurst-winning Falcon, Peter Brock's 87 Bathurst Commodore, Bob Jane's Chev Camaro and an F5000 car that Frank Matich drove to win the 1971 Australian Grand Prix.

Although not part of Australian motorsport history, two Le Mans-winning Porsches will also join the hot lap sessions. The 1979 and 1987 Le Mans winners are amongst the most valuable Porsches in the world.

Off track, fans can get up close during meet and greet sessions with yesterday's heroes.

Legends confirmed to attend include Allan Moffat, Bob Jane, Bob Morris, Leo Geoghegan, Harry Firth, John Harvey, Colin Bond, Allan Grice, John Goss, Kevin Bartlett, Fred Gibson, John French, Jim and Steve Richards, John Bowe, Glenn Seton, Murray Carter, Frank Matich, Phil Brock, Robbie Francevic, Des West, Tony Edmondson, Brian Foley, Garth Wigston, Peter McLeod, Garry Rogers, Charlie O'Brien, Andrew Miedecke, Bryan Thomson, Don Holland, Bob Holden, John Leffler, Graham Moore, Trevor Ashby, John Cotter and John Smith.

Other attractions include a display some of Australia's most desirable road-registered muscle cars and a Merchandise Mall.
