Well i have a bit of a thing for building models when i cant be bothered or afford to mod my Falcons. At the moment im working on a Fiat Abarth 695ss and a Western Star Prime mover. The Fiat is in its final stages of assembly however ive just started on the Truck. Usually when painting i use modelers preasure pack cans and hand paint however i felt like a change and thought id have a go at using an Airbrush kit for the Truck. I have never used one before and i plan on practicing on random bits and pieces i have around the house. Can anybody give me any information on setting up the gun etc for best results.
For those of you who know me and by looking at my signature its not hard to figure out that i drive trucks, Im planning on painting the Western Star to match my current 06 Kenworth in our company livery. My boss is having our company stickers printed up in 24th scale for me to apply to the truck once finished. I have ordered a scale taughtliner to sit behind the prime mover and once completed should fairly well replicate my Truck... Cheers Dan

Please post some pic's if you get a chance, I'm a model builder from way back, only kits though. I never really had the artistic ability to do custom paint.
Your truck sounds like it will be great when it's done! Ed |

Awesome mate. Cant wait to see the pics, take lots of progress pics.
Ive been taking my time with a 1/18 '67 Camaro Z28 that I've had for years. It looked too whimpy stock.. with its V6 and 4WD ride height and stock rims.. so over the past year when i get the time I've been modifying it. The idea is to have it slammed on its guts, with a blower sticking out of the bonnet with big dub rims I didnt take any stock pics, but it looked exactly like this but a slightly darker blue. Heres the original wheels which came off the car And heres some fat *** ones which are replacing it - BIG dish on the rear! Heres the motor out of the car, with the start of my blower being built up. Notice the lovely orange block. The manifold and XF carby style air cleaner was tossed asside. Made up some real basic carbys and bug catcher and trial fitted it Painted the block ford blue Test fit of the painted blower and other bits. You can see the old air cleaner in the background Here it was trial fitted into the car with blutac holding it together, and rims trial fitted. it looked pretty dodgy at this stage still And heres where I am at the moment. Added a nice supercharger pulley and belt onto the front of the motor, and made a spacer plate between the engine and the blower. Ive still got plenty of work, i want to rig up some fuel lines and ive got some thin red wire which looks great as sparkplug leads.. thats to come soon. I've marked out the hole on the bonnet and i'm still to cut out the hole in in. Im open to suggestions. Fire away. PS, its a lot cheaper easier and quicker than building up a real car I've noticed

Nice Camaro there mate!
I'm into building models. Most of mine are Chevelle's, coz, well......i love them. I have bought so many and haven't even started a 3 quarters of them. This is just the thing to rekindle my hobby. Am also building a full chassis HG panel van, you know the jaymar fibreglass kits??

i've always loved this model stuff, so i bought a '66 Mustang GT350h kit. man its hard doin them. i always end up stuffing the glass up. they go all foggy from the glue.
in regards to the airbrush. i've been doing it for a while. i bought some enamel to paint the stang with, but its way too thick to spray with a normal brush. i had to thin it down heaps. and as a result it takes overnight to dry and is prone to runs. you'd probably have to get one with a large needle, mines .3mm where abouts do you buy your kits/paint from? i would mind practicing a bit more. and is that just polystyrene to make up the blower? Heres some small pics of some of the diecast ive collected over the years. The Mitsubishi EVO however is one I built about 10 years ago. Got heaps more diecast/plastic models i've made over the years but these are the best.

what paint did you use on the camaro? i just bought a 57 Chev kit and want a really nice metallic colour. the solid water based paints just arent cutting it for me.
i finished my stang off using water based and my airbrush, and omg its so easy, the paint dries in a minute or two, and its quick to apply. i'm still ****ed off at my windows though, any tips so they dont go white? |

i'm still ****ed off at my windows though, any tips so they dont go white?[/QUOTE] the trouble with wood glue is over time it can yellow and change the colour of your paint, or peel the windscreen off or out. My suggestion is go to the hobby store and buy a bottle of glue from a company called Humbrol and it is called Liquid Poly. It comes with a brush applicator and is very easy to use. The common mistake is that frosting occurs when the glue vapors can not escape, so the frost the glass. Make sure next time you glue the windows in, use a minimal amount of glue and if in doubt, apply it with a sowing needle so you can control how much goes on. Here are a couple of mine. my '49 Ford. It is an AMT plastic kit. I assembled it and included a ripped headlining. This photo was taken when it won the Civil Vehicles category at the Australian Championships. My 1/35 US Navy PBR, Vietnam patrol boat, at the 2002 QLD Modelling Championships where it won Ships all scale Modified. It is a Tamiya kit. I built it with little modifications, but have since been in contact with an EX-Navy PBR skipper who gave me a heap of personal photos, so another more accurate version is being built. the Engine of a WW2 German halftrack. It did not place, but I was happy with the result and the weathering. This is a WW2 German tank that I built for someone. There are some good looking models in this thread so keep putting them up. I love looking at them! cheers Chris |

I have a heap of 1:18 diecast cars, but since this thread is supposed to be about plastic kits, here goes...
This is one of my favourites. It is my 1:24 '65 Galaxie kit I bought about 15 years ago I think. Twice blown Hemi engine is from a '70s Barris or Roth bathtub car. Rear wheels are from a larger scale popcorn wagon, 1:18 I think. Made the wheelie bars from parts off the bathtub car. Removed the inner fenders to accomodate engine, and inner trunk to fit wheels. Rest of Galaxie is the basic kit. I wanted the car to look like an old school drag car, with rear up in the air.

1tufel that camaro was diecast, sorry mate i didnt paint that one only started modifying it :( As for the glass going all foggy, i found that fingerprints on the plastic usually turn all white one the fumes from the glue hits them, so watch out for that, plus try to use as little glue as possible around the very edges of the windows when you stick them in.
1970galaxie, that looks pretty killer mate. mmm twin supercharged :P
