Default Marked Cop Car, w/ring rd, (80 zone-works)?

Just wondering if there are mobile speed cameras that are marked (police vehicles), Is it true that a company transports the mobile revenue raisers and not the police officers? -- do cops only do the radar guns... just wondering as I thought I spotted a marked police car(sedan) on the far right side of the road with no lights on at night... its' where they're doing road works on the western ring road. not to far before ring rd maccas(?).

was sitting on 89 .. no flashes, and obviously didn't get pulled up..

maybe redrum or sdck can fill me in

thanks

you are right. it is seperate people that do the cameras.
the cop cars sitting there are radar guns.
they usually only come after you if they are really bord. or if your doing 10 + over i think

they hide at the roadworks just as ya leave geelong as well.

the ones at geelong they are real sneaky. they hide in behind a barrier with mesh fence on top so it is near imposible to see them unless you are looking for them like i do :P

they would get nearly every person if they had perm camera

Anything to do with cameras eg the fixed ones and the ones in the cars are a private company and have nothing to do with the police.

Your marked car on the Western Ring road would have been using the laser. There is a difference between the laser and the radar. The radar's are hardly used anymore and are getting outdated.

It would be a hard copper to chase you for doing anything under 15k's, but all coppers are different, so if you see a marked car, slow down.

The camera's don't have that much discretion. I think they are set at anything over 3k's.

Personally, if you are doing 15k's or more over the limit, I pull you up. Then it's up to attitude.

Hmm, So the cop cars on the road parked, only used a radar gun? do they acutally have a camera and snap you for it?
Other thing, i've seen a cop before, standing on foot in a drive way with a radar or laser. not sure, does thsi mean that they can snap you? (as in get ur number plate n all like those fixed cameras)?

No, but he will not be alone, he may have a car parked around the corner and will radio the driver the car, the reg and the speed and the driver will pull you over.

Did anyone see the camera on the tripod in the princess fwy geelong bound last week? Was left out for 24 hours behind a pylon on the overpass for the western ring rd. There's a hell of a lot of people going to be screwed if they start using that more often.

Anyone know the legalites on the use of speed cameras on tripods in vic? I didnt think the government had stooped that low yet.

well i hope i get done soon if at all as i'm not a slow driver and impatient! (i do look to the sides of the road and slow down when there are cars parked.. but i guess it might catch up to me sooner or later)

i am driving a qld regged car.. bad thing is.. if i have gotten any fines it will probably be in a pile somewhere in qld that i don't know about lol :(

I haven't seen the tripods yet... you sure they weren't one of these.. :P

i did spot a unmarked with lights on, it was pulled over.. though he hadn't pulled anyone over.. maybe he was using laser gun.. i dunno. (on the ringroad not too far before the cameras south bound)

Nah mate, got one of those in the shed.

97.8% sure It's a camera. Was out for 24 hours on monday, i passed a transit van and a commodore wagon picking it up on tuesday morning at about 4:30am from under the western ring rd overpass.

Apparently word on the UHF today was that it was out again, in the new 80kmh zone between the westgate and the tunnel, didnt see it with my own eyes today as i didnt go through that section, but it was being talked about.

All mobile speed cameras are run by a private company. Police, many years ago, did man these cameras, but after a few incidents, including the apparent accidental discharge of a firearm into one, the job was contracted out.

Police will sit of the road with laser/radar, but if they don't come and intercept you at the time, you don't have anything to worry about.

That spot on the Western Ring Road is annoying as are any other spots where they do roadwork and it seems to take forever and the lower speed signs are left out 24/7 regardless of whether they are working or not.
