Default Disappearing images

I've noticed that images have disappeared from some threads recently. Is this by accident or by design?

The thing that makes forums so great is that years can go by and threads with detailed images will always be so much better than crummy Facebook groups where nothing is archived.

Some image hosting sites (like Tapatalk) seem to expire their images after 12 months.

I have been having issues with PostImage, but only on this forum and Autogeek, they continue to work elsewhere. And its only certain images that do it. It says upgrade to premium, but I don't think this is the issue because when I click on the image individually, the image name disappears, so its something server related. When I try to re-enter the image name, it comes up "server error".

I have attempted to contact PostImage but have not heard back. I hoping this doesn't end up like the Photobucket disaster, I have A LOT of effort invested into all of those images.

For the record, I don't use Tapatalk.

Strange thing I have observed; when viewing the forum on my Android phone, the images that I've posted in threads have not disappeared.

On my work PC, they don't display. That is what I was using today when I created this thread. But, some other threads' photos were still visible.

However, another poster mentioned his photos disappeared, and they're definitely not visible to me on either device I view the forum from.

I've noticed images from postimages will appear on some platforms and not others.

I posted 2 images hosted on postimages this afternoon. It is showing up on my phone using tapatalk. But its not showing up when I use chrome or firefox on my PC.

Have noticed this in the past also.

Postimage is a very unstable platform, often riddled with bugs to the point of frustration. But......................it's "free", so I guess you can't expect much.

Ok its not a browser problem. I left the page open whilst I went for a shower, 10 mins later, the images appeared.

So I can only assume that if the hosting site is REALLY slow, then you won't see the images.

In tapatalk you see a progress download bar for images, so you know there are images there even though they haven't loaded. On PC browsers, there is no progress bar, you don't see anything. So unless you stay on that page long enough for the image to load, you won't realise there was an image there at all!

And if the page is not cached, then it might appear that the images have disappeared when you visit the page again?

I just got an email from Postimage stating the issue has been resolved. Checking my account, these missing images that were blued-out have reappeared. Likewise posts that had lost images.

I am not very down with how websites work. Can someone explain why this site wouldn't host the images and instead need a third-party to host?
