Cav, look away.

So a great walk down to Bremens bakery this morning where we decided to eat next door at cafe Ronto for brekky (lunch for me) Excellent food that's on a whole different level.

So afterwards we popped back next door to take home a beaut steak pie and (again) apple turnover before taking the bus (for Franco) back home.



Looks like it going to be for dinner now.

Well that pie turned out to be perfect for me just the right amount of dark gravy to dunk my own homemade chips in. 20mins @ 180 in the oven.
A real treat.

Went back down to Bremens again for another apple turnover for after dinner this morn, asked them about matches (matchsticks) which He couldn't recall.
Whatever happened to them.

Layered pastry, wafer cream and jam from memory.

Totally tempted by the large Beestings he has there.

Our old office was about 10 minutes drive from the Springvale Shop.
Morning teas and Lunch time were chaotic the times I went there.

Next time the vegetarian “Steak Style Pies” are on sale at Colesworth’s, I’m buying some. And a can of mushy peas, to make budget floaters. All the pea soups have meat in them.

I find the Aldi meat pies the Pastry is a bit hard when just heated in the oven.
My work around is to Microwave the Pie for 2 Minutes wrapped in a paper towel then finish off in the oven for 15 minutes.
I think the Aldi pies maybe be made by Scott's.

For some reason NE Vic pies are mainly square or oval (like Beechworth)
NSW seem to like round.

Bit like coffee (soy) mocha is served in a cup in most of country Vic, where as the same is served in a latte glass NSW.

And in Melbourne they ask you if you like it cappuccino style (cup) or latte style (glass)

In the late 1960's and early 1970's they sold Noon Pies at the School tuckshop and I am fairly sure they were round.
The first Square Pie I remember was Big Ben.

At one time the Four N Twenty and Noon Factories were both located in Kensington.
Noon relocated to the Northern Suburbs, Preston I think it was late 1960s early 1970s.
Noon Pies were sold to a. Sydney company.and eventually disappeared from the Market.

Who else remembers the Herbert Adams Shops?
The Coles and Myer Cafeterias sold oval pies, I am fairly sure they were Herbert Adams.

Where I grew up there was a Herbert Adams Shop and diagonally across the road there was an Austrian Pastry Shop that made excellent Pies and awesome Coffee Scrolls.

Patties own the Four and Twenty, Herbert Adams and National Pies Brands.
I read that Patties was sold to a Private Equity firm in 2016.
