So basically from that date for an indefinite time I can't plan anything, don't know if I'm going to work or in court, and if empanelled that is a heavy weight.

I have a court date next month if that makes you feel any better. Im the one making the claim so its effectively on me. Its in the high court, but i dont want to go, but kind of have to. Jury duty you still get paid for sort of. Get a letter from your employer to hopefully get you out of it. Or just in the screening interview say your heaps biased towards any form of social issue.
